This. I've never understood the hyping up games as the "wow killer." Make a fun game, and people will play.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but:

What, lol. This is the worst way to judge what Bethesda is trying to do, if anything it shows they're looking at the current market. Strict servers are one of the most outdated concepts in these games and the sooner MMOs start adopting the GW2/ESO server models, the better.

This isn't ten years ago anymore. The technology to allow me to play with anyone who's playing the game exists (gw2 servers, wow battletags to an extent). There are no excuses to segregate your players nowadays if you're releasing a new game.

Bethesda has a lot to prove imo, especially after Skyrim. I'm not doubting the technology but the actual programmers.

What was wrong with Skyrim? It was the same thing as Fallout 3: a buggy sandboxy mess that overcharged for expansion packs. It is what it is: that's what you get with Bethesda. It'll be interesting to see if they can cut down on the bugs for a MMO.

I think Yoshi has a very good plan with as much stuff he's gonna release when 2.0 comes out and how much stuff will be released until the expansion. Many of the other MMOs release the game with given content and you have to wait pretty long time for the patch or expansion. If you give people too much content they just gonna pick the fastest way to get where they want, ignore other content, and bitch about there not being more. Seems Yoshi has a pace in mind that will make people feel like they getting attention and money for their buck.

Bit of a tangent here, but the oft maligned PS3 port of Skyrim saw its performance much improved with the addition of a SSD. It will be interesting to see if any of the FFXIV players are willing to go to those lengths when the PS3 version comes out.

There's no excuse for releasing such a broken game, especially if you only send Xbox copies to reviewers and hide the bad one. Bethesda better invite all those TES modders for alpha and beta to fix all those bugs.
And I actually am enjoying Skyrim (on PC), doesn't change the fact that they have a lot to prove just like SE after XIV's disaster.

I don't think they have as much to prove, simply because every open-ended sandbox game they produce is a buggy mess. Fallout 3 was buggy as shit as well, with hilarious glitches and annoying crashes. SE hasn't had some massive penchant for failure similiar to how 1.0 flopped, so they're in different boats. If SE has a lot of pressure, its simply because they're the more famous company and have struggled in recent years compared to years past, when they were absolutely untouchable.

Playing The Secret World proved to me that no matter how interesting your gameplay elements are, your programming has to be on point. If you have to jump shards or whatever to get to a working version of a quest because they didn't expect 100 people clicking the same area would break it, everything else you did well means jack shit. I have no feelings in regards to TES:O, but it seems like a valid concern when all of Bethesda's most popular games are ones in which you just have the one player and it STILL got buggy.

Its because they're so open-ended. When you have all that freedom, that's a lot of extra coding compared to something like Gears of War when you're basically on rails for the entire game. Wide open vs. narrow. Wide open is always gonna have more to code.

I don't excuse the Bethesda bastards, but people still eat that shit up and buy their games in droves, despite the bugs. I guess people are alright with bugs so long as their individual experience with the games isn't hampered too much. For example, I could care less how buggy their games are on consoles, as I don't play on them and consoles are wholly inferior anyway. That being said, it must suck to drop $60 on something and have it not work and crash all the time.

I think there are a lot of ways that SE can exploit Blizzard if they can really deliver a more consistent experience in balance plus post level cap play.

In WoW, I find stuff changes way too much, every expansion seems to completely change the way you play your favorite class, sometimes its not for the better. Nothing is more aggravating to me than having to constantly re-learn your class every patch because Blizzard is so indecisive on class vision. A lot of times I find in WoW, Blizzard will completely destroy a spec only to bring it back in line several patches later.

In WoW, this is the 2nd expansion where I found the leveling experience way more cooler than actually hitting the level cap. I loved the story each area brought to Mists of Pandaria but the game is drastically going downhill now that I hit 90. The game should continue to get more exciting after the level-cap, in WoW, its the opposite.

I'm hoping in 2.0, the journey post level cap is a lot more fun. Blizzard has disappointed me again after hitting the level cap.

At least it changes. I dunno if I'd want to have the same experience 8 years in a row.

    Ugh.

I hope 2.0 is at the opposite end of spectrum in comparison to WoW. While I bought MoP, I'm entirely done with the grind system. The problem with WoW's grind system is that it feels task-based like you're performing chores (dailies) for filler until the raid ID is unlocked. A different kind of grind would be like daily runs of instances/zones/dungeons/etc a la Nyzul runs or something to the effect. I guess in the end it's all a grind but I never felt like I was "grinding" in FFXI. That could be partly due to the fact that most things required groups and it all felt like it was much bigger than one single thing.

Sadly I'm no longer sure what I want from a MMO or if I want anything at all other than to complain. With that being said, I hope 2.0 is awesome (it looks to be so far) and I hope to be able to play it as much as I can to restore some of the FFXI 'glory' that I sorely miss.

Did you ever party? HNM? Help others with Sea/Sky access? Farm? All of that was a massive, colossal grind. That's pretty cool that you never felt a grind at any point, though.

XI's still there, though, if you want that "glory" back. As 2.0 is going to be very different from XI, I dunno if you'd be getting any kind of glory from it.

Jesus Christ, you have such an enormous chip on your shoulder about FFXI and I'm not sure why. I completely agree that XIV definitely shouldn't try to emulate XI (my personal theory is that something comparable to the 'golden age' of FFXI that so many people yearn for simply wouldn't be able to exist in this day and age), but it seems to me that every post of yours I read is equal in its mouth-frothing zealotism to those of the idiots on the other side who want 2.0 to become FFXI HD. We get it, you thought XI sucked and don't want to see any elements from it in 2.0, stop banging on about it.

Checked spam etc.? If not, just ask someone else that's in to provide you with the link to the Alpha site where you will be able to download the client. The e-mail is just information so it's not needed to activate your access or anything.
