I'm one of those "I don't want to play a mini-game crafting system within the game" but this doesn't look as bad as 1.0. However, it doesn't really detract from the game unless you can 'craft' the best gear in the game. These are opinions, fyi.

That's what I'm saying, if you dont want to craft you dont need to. Like in every other game you can buy shit with money you farmed. There is a huge number of people who want to play this game specifically for crafting and gathering. With housing, gardening, chocobo raising, crafting, gathering, etc this game for some people will be like Sims. It's why this game can stand out and it's what many casuals are looking for. Going from hub to hub and killing mobs can only take you so far before you get bored. However, naturally everyone thinks the game needs to cater to them 110%. They're like a fat chick at a comedy club who hates fat jokes so she thinks no one else can laugh at them and the entire act needs to revolve around her.
What I'd like to see for crafting is something where you have to manually craft something first and get checked off in you journal, and once you've done that you can set that recipe to autocraft until you run out of mats. If I have a stack of 99 maple logs that I want to turn into lumber I don't want to play the synthesis game 99 times even if I can get 100% completion with one skill, it would still get really old really fast.
Not so fast you say, wouldn't this make it really easy to autocraft levels? I suppose it would, but there are easy enough solutions to make it unattractive or at the least inefficient. You could make it so autocrafting gives half experience or less so that it's only really attractive to people with a crapload of money to dump into it. If it's really a concern you can make it so it gives no exp at all and thus only becomes useful to crafters looking to synth mats for other recipes or for sale and not for afk leveling.
I love the way the new gathering interface works. Being able to chose what I'm after is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge improvement over the tedious gathering system of 1.0. I was getting sick of only getting Salt Leeks when I was after Logs...
That's a pretty good idea. If you had to 'slow craft' stuff until you mastered it and once you mastered it (a la maxed it out in levels), you could just click on the recipe and have it auto craft until you're out of mats.
For reference, this is a dick dude.
At this point, I'm not worried about this basics anymore, but I'm afraid I might....well. Lets just say Firefall might have spoiled me.
Only nearly there?! Dammit, we need to make more pointless threads and clutter up the existing ones with nonsensical crap! Get on it people! But yeah, some of the complaints stated are so stated because people who recently joined (like me) don't bother reading through pages of comments to see what is going to be changed in beta when they could be doing something more productive like farming for more mats while bitching about overcrowding on Mumble.
Its not the same, Niiro. In other games, you literally press craft all and the bars keep going up without your imput until you either cancel the order of run out of mats. That's nothing like 1.0, even with 1.0's "mass production" ability. You can craft 300 tree logs into planks in GW2 in about 3 minutes time; in FF, it'd take around a solid hour of constant clicking.
Personally, I'd like to see something inbetween the two. While I don't want a bunch of bars flying up at light speed representing me somehow crafting things into existence, I'd also rather not have to spend 30 minutes on the day crafting a bunch of base supply mats that I'm 20+ levels over, simply because the game wants to strike a realistic tone. If I wanted that, I'd play Farm Simulator and spend 3 hours changing the stable horse's studs.
I think they'll find a reasonable middleground, mostly in part because Yoshi has played other MMOs and has experience on how they do things vs. how SE's done things in the past. As always, Beta will tell a lot about how things are going.
I understand the mass crafting thing, I was more referring to how the crafting process relates to exp.
Whether or not an expedited mass crafting function should be present and how it should work depends on the game's economy to a degree and how significant crafting/gathering is to it.
For example: you're a lvl 50 ARM and you need a bunch of iron ingots. You're left with the choice of making them yourself (which takes time) or buying them already made at a higher cost. Mass crafting would make this a non-issue but for the lvl 15 ARM leveling up on those iron ingots the lack of said function gives him a market for his product.
For a game that puts more emphasis on crafting/gathering activities than others (tho it's clearly greatly simplified in 2.0) it's something to consider. How complex and important crafting will be at the more advanced levels is yet to be seen tho.
Crafting for base mats, I'd like to see something like...
Let's say 1 log + 1 crystal = 1 lumber, just let the person select that many logs and that many crystals and give them the results but maybe no exp and no HQ results.
Edit: To be clear, I would still want those who are leveling or trying to HQ to be able to streamline their synths. So if you do have 99 logs and want to synth them individually it would just continue doing so unless you hit something that said 'Quit Synthing' at the beginning of a synth. Or select how many you want to do in a row at the beginning. Either way.
Except the lvl 15 ARM would probably want to save those ingots for his own synthesis![]()
While I understand where are you coming from I still think we do need something changed. Personally for me it would be enough just to choose how many times you want to perform the synth so it doesn't go back to the recipe book after each time. Similarly to how it worked with Leve in 1.0 but without the confirmation between each craft. Or heck, I'd even live with it since crafting is so much faster now.
Perhaps that's something that can still be added, and it presents a bit of extra risk, especially if you have the ability to craft multiple items with a single craft. Fail that craft and you may be out who knows how many mats and crystals because you rushed trying to craft 10-20 things at once.
Hmm... I'll make a post about that on the OF.
I've long longed for a 'synth all' button in ffxi. A mass synth button in ffxiv would be welcome. After you have already hit the level of the recipe and no exp granted for this option seems reasonable.
Looks like I missed the alpha train again. Tears are building.
