I guess doing events and stuff that gave EXP would be quite nice... but I mean, is there some way in particular you'd want to gain experience as? I mean, grinding for levels is sort of an inevitable thing if you want to progress, I doubt anything would ever beat group EXP by virtue of having so many people working together, and leves are at least available for you if you want to solo and such (plus they stack up over time).
Lack of main scenario (which have beaucoup exp before, maybe not now) and FATE (I think exp was a reward, no?
Only thing with that is there is only 3 a day and the exp rewards from them aren't exactly stellar.
Hell, I look forward to partying up to level. That is the #1 thing I enjoy about FFXI and FFXIV compared to other mmos was getting into actual exp parties. Only reason not doing it now is that I have no desire to put that much effort into an alpha.
I recall reading that dungeons would be used for leveling too, no? Between quests, leves, party exp, and dungeons, I feel like there will be plenty of ways to grind up multiple jobs without it being too boring.
Also lol @ people complaining at a lack of content in an alpha.
dynamic events too, which should hopefully be truly dynamic and fast to reload and give good xp rewards.
Just to clarify I never complained about a lack of content, I just said it was boring. The combat is really dull and single-button-spammy, even in groups, but I'm sure (I hope) they'll change that after alpha.
Are there really only 3/day in ARR? Quite a drop from 8.
Either way, when you have 99 built up, whether you're getting 3 or 8 per day, the only way you're going to run out is if you're seriously burning yourself out which is kind of on the player at that point. Assuming there are enough other things to do (and it sounds like there are/will be even more) I don't see running out of leves being an issue.
If there is insufficient content to supplement them then obviously that's on SE to fix.
Yep, and from what it looks like right now plus what we assume will be duplicated across the cities, that makes 3 complete quest lines for leveling 1 class in each city (3 classes leveled up), guildleves, dungeon grinding, FATE system, and open-world grinding. Did I miss anything guys?
These are my observations/assumptions based on alpha experience:
- The quest lines across the cities will be great for primary leveling purposes.
- Guildleves will be great "gap-fillers" when you need to hit 10 from 9 to open up a quest or something (the quest line grinding isn't as tight, telegraphed or predictable on the leveling curve as WoW/Rift/etc.). They give a lot of EXP and also have gear/med/items rewards like in 1.0.
- Dungeons will be excellent for gaining levels at a rapid pace while in parallel progression.
- The FATE system will be another gap-filler aside leves to bring some dynamic flavor to the meal. Ideally it will also offer level-centric rewards to fill in gear slots and/or sidegrade quest rewards.
- By reports, open-world grinding is a viable option as a supplement to daily leves. It's not on par with XI's grinding (as well it should not be among all these options), but it is there for the pick-up/put-down variation of leveling.
Certainly this is an idealistic view of it, but Yoshi-P is probably thinking about how we're going to level up multiple classes. From what I've seen, the game is on the right track to support leveling an unlimited number of classes. People will prefer certain ways to level, such as dungeons or open-world, and they all bring their own "rewards" with them (gear vs. farming vs. etc..). An objective observer can see how it looks good on paper and we will have to wait and see how it will work in practice once it's all live. I for one am optimistic, especially because I love dungeon leveling. That being an option is pretty tits.
I wonder if they're going to reset our leve stockpile in ARR. I would be surprised if we get to hold on to all the leves from before 2.0
NDA is not lifted, so I hope everyone talking above hasn't mentioned anything that hasn't been officially posted in a video.
edit: because can't be bothered to verify what's in the vids
What kind of dynamic were you thinking of that would be suitable to make it more interesting? Is there something you had in mind to make it less boring?Just to clarify I never complained about a lack of content, I just said it was boring. The combat is really dull and single-button-spammy, even in groups, but I'm sure (I hope) they'll change that after alpha.
I mean, this isn't at all everything that is available, but I'm trying to imagine that it'll be more interesting when you have a dozen or so more skills to work with.
