The FF-online brand is barely known in EU, and by that I mean most people have not heard anything of FFXI or FFXIV other than the fact that they suck/sucked and WoW > them. They'll need to get this out before too much attention is put on Elder scrolls online and whatnot if they want to have an EU community worth being mentioned.

If there will be just 1 or 2 servers promoted to EU, then fine I guess.

All EU* promoted servers would be, incase they release more than than a few. If you doubt it, maybe look around the EU websites and check the buzz for FFXIV.

It's too early to make statements like that. If you think that they should just hurry up and release the game fast then sorry, but you're wrong. In this case, longer wait is better because they can make a better/complete game and still have time to create the buzz. Plus, I don't find "EU websites" to be any worthwhile source of how many people will play the game.

I'm not saying they should release an unfinished game, but if they release it after march, it will hurt a lot, be it finished or not. We can count on WoW releasing new content close to late feb/march/april, and as mentioned, the elder scrolls online which is talked about a fair bit will be (according to themselves) not too many months away from release, which is around the time the game goes into super-hype-mode and people set their focus on that game.

You should probably also take the website buzz way more serious than you do in that regard. For most AAA-MMORPGs, there will be a bunch of national fan-sites for each game, where people discuss, set up pre-made guilds/linkshells/clans etc. It can be a decent indication.

Seems some people are not even up to date with that stuff, so I'll just repost what we know: the march speculation is no longer valid, as Yoshi said the game will be released sometimes during summer. And that is not taking into consideration any further delays, which are actually to be expected.

I understand where are you coming from with the websites stuff, but to be more specific: they are not worth looking at right now. There is nothing to really create a serious buzz among people that are not following the game so closely as we are. It's just a normal mmo in alpha state. The buzz will start growing when we get to beta and more information will be available on content, gameplay modes etc. Right now, the game is 'dead' since 1.0 for majority. ARR is just slowly getting advertised here and there, so it needs time.

I don't know why you keep mentioning "EU websites", it's the internet, world wide web etc. People get their gaming news anywhere these days.

Even with Aion Sweden alone had a number of websites dedicated to that game long before release, and has been with all AAA games since.

    dunno about that.

XI was insanely popular in my country back in the days...as a matter of fact, I had never played an MMO prior to that, I couldn't care less about the Final Fantasy brand as a whole (FF7 lasted a mere 45 minutes in my PS1 CD-tray if I recall correctly), didn't really like RPG's all that much either, yet I jumped on the hypewagon (after seeing a bunch of screenshots from people who were already playing, on an italian fansite) and got the game, imported, around NA release.

The game also held its own for quite a few years with at least 2-3 full-fledged fansites getting hefty traffic since way before the beta and up until I quit (2008~).

To be fair from what I've seen EU-specific or EU-recommended servers tend to be ghost towns compared to NA servers, so you usually end up feeling like you're stuck at home whilst a big party goes on down the street. It sucks that it's difficult for EUs to match up playtimes with NAs, but I think for British players at least it's worth rolling on NA servers regardless.

Really? I can't think of anything worse. Every NA linkshell I've been in whether XI or XIV scheduled LS events began around 12am at the earliest with some later to accommodate the west coast players. That does not work if you have a job. Even on a Friday or Saturday night it can be tough staying up until 4am when your sleep pattern has been going to bed at 11pm all week, plus a lot of LSs seem to take Saturday nights off. For me there is no question of which server I join, it will be EU. The only downside is I may have to seek a new linkshell but I was fairly new to the one I was in during the end of V1 anyway.

    EU LS on NA server.

Seriously, they should just have global servers, that was one of the joys of playing FFXI, no matter when you played you always had people around.

All servers are global lol. They're simply located in the three regions so people can decide to play with the least amount of latency.

Pretty much same thing as dividing them into EU/NA/Etc. You expect any casual uninformed european to roll on a server located in NA and vice versa?
