That sounds like the AIs in Halo. All of the human-created AIs in the Halo universe are copied from human brains. The process kills the human, although Cortana is the first of a new generation of AIs to use a cloned/copied brain (of Dr. Halsey), thus preserving the parent's life. They sometimes retain some tendencies from their parent, and vague, deep-seated memories, such as brushing their hair.

Anyway, I'd rather see a GITS style technological evolution. It would allow me to escape this weak and broken husk. No Crohn's, no allergies, no fucked up back/assorted joints... and if they can get it that far, they'll be able to do at least a decent approximation of a sense of touch. Taste and smell would be the only things I'd be likely to lose, and I already don't enjoy eating, so I don't think that would be to big a price to pay.

Just gotta hang on long enough.
