    In terms of good quality audio that won't break the bank, I doubt you'll find better than this:

    Unfortunately, those headphones do not have a microphone, which probably makes it a deal breaker for you.

    Beyond the headset you've already linked, any of the other decent options I'm finding—a challenge in the realm of wireless, to be sure—would break your budget, too:

    Of course, if you're not awfully worried about sound quality—though these appear to be decent at it—you could always opt for a headset that, while not specifically designed for gaming, could handle it competently:

    Any other recommendations for a sound card compatible with the astro a40s? I've seen good things about an HT Striker card as well as this ASUS xonar dx, but I'm fairly clueless about both.

    Thank you, I appreciate the help. Undecided, but the last set doesn't seem bad at all.

    Also, regarding soundcards, I've only ever heard the Asus Xonar recommended.

    Ended up buying an ASUS Xonar D1 - PCI instead of PCIe and didn't require a power cable...same card. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

    Little late but if you haven't decided on anything yet..

    I highly recommend Turtle Beach. The sound quality is amazing and they have a good selection that matches any price range. I have a pair that is several years old and it's still truckn along.

    Actually what they have now look a lot better than my old ones. ^^;

    I have a pair of turtlebeach DPX21 and they seem ok. I didn't pay for them and that's the only reason I have them. The comfort is lacking for me, at least. Also can't use the digital surround sound on a PC, just PS3.

    My FiiO e17 arrived this week and I've been impressed with how well it works. I mainly ordered it to replace my old self made cmoy amp that didn't have enough power to run my DT 990s (250 ohm) that well, and I figured the dac on the e17 would be a nice extra feature. Past couple days I've been running audio through the usb and the sound was nice. Today I finally decided to run it with S/PDIF at 96K/24bit and it is amazing. Can't get it to run at 192K/24bit, but hoping newer drivers will fix that. As a portable amp it works great too. Unfortunately, the DAC doesn't work with my Galaxy S3, but the audio out with Power Amp is good already.

    The bad thing is that I burned more than half my music back in 2002-2004 at 128 kbs because memory was scarcer. Now it just sounds like shit.
