Maybe I'm a bit naive on this, but with the level of gerrymandering in some states it will be tough for democrats to get the house. For example in Michigan, 54% of the votes went for democratic congressmen (same as for Barack), but only 5 of 14 congress seats went to democrats. Republicans have been unpopular for 15 months now and they still have a 30 seat majority in the house.

Best thing Dems can hope for is in a year obamacare goes full effect, and people decide they love it and recall all the death panel etc. talk.

Shits gonna end up not passing. Shit, if the majority of the GOP do not want to extend tax cuts for the middle class, just might as well come out and say it.

Can def. tell the GOP has divided itself when even McConnell (albeit reluctantly ) agreed to the senate bill, yet the House will probably say lolNo.

Unless democrats issue lawsuits and go nuclear to redraw districts (probably unlikely/very unpopular), they will probably not get the House back until at least 2020.

Both sides gerrymander, but the amount of safety and comfort that republicans are enjoying is unprecedented.

Now for the fallout.
It doesn't matter for those leaving office in a day, but for those that remain.

85 republicans voted YES to cut taxes, but the cost of that was to compromise with the democrats. There could be internal party strife over that.
151 republicans voted NO, thus effectively saying yes to raising taxes. Needless to say this makes them a bit vulnerable.

And of course, this is all just taxes.
For the new congress coming in, the next big issue is the "debt celing" which we've now hit, and sequestration cuts (including defense cuts we've all been paying attention to), which has been delayed for two months.

Payroll tax goes up, capital gains goes up slightly.

+3.8% on Capital Gains (23.8% maximum, up from 15% to 20%), 6.2% SS Payroll tax.

The IRS is claiming that the payroll tax may change or go back down and apparently will only be in effect upwards of 4-5 weeks.

Wonder what will happen with Cantor when he's up for re-election, considering he voted against the bill. Also, Boehner is gonna lose his seat in a couple of days any way, more than likely.
