the weirdest thing about being a k-state fan is that snyder is absolutely nuts with juco guys and transfers so nobody really has any idea either way if we have a good recruiting year or not until they actually play

When Kansas State earned a commitment from Lee’s Summit (Mo.) West High defensive end Jamone Boyd, he knew he was landing one of the best defensive linemen in the Class of 2013. What he didn’t realize was that he was also getting a commitment from a player who would turn out to be a criminal.

As reported by Kansas City NBC affiliate KSHB, Boyd was arrested and charged with five counts of first degree robbery and armed criminal action, dating to a crime in January. Boyd allegedly turned himself in to authorities on Sunday after he was identified by the victims of the robbery. As an 18-year-old, Boyd could face full penalties for armed robbery in Missouri, which would carry a minimum sentence of 10 years per count, a total of 50 years imprisonment for the robbery.

Naturally, the arrest was stunning just two days before Boyd was expected to sign a scholarship to play football at Kansas State. The 6-foot-4 defensive end was recruited by schools throughout the SEC, Big Ten and Big XII as well as Washington State.

Those schools were apparently not dissuaded from recruiting the defensive end despite a disturbing November incident in which he was arrested for marijuana possession and reacted so aggressively that he had to be tased by police officers.

Prosecutors requested a $150,000 bond for Boyd’s release, due in part to the violent nature of the January robbery. According to KSHB, Boyd and his accomplices allegedly struck victims in the back of the head with a pistol and were aggressively shoved to the floor.

4 Ala. football players arrested after robberies

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Three University of Alabama football players have been charged with knocking students unconscious and stealing their wallets, while a fourth player has been charged with using a stolen debit card, officials said Tuesday.

Linebacker Tyler Hayes, 18, and safety Eddie Williams, 20, confessed to robbing a student who was punched in the head and face and kicked in the ribs and back early Monday morning, according to court documents. Williams said D.J. Pettway, 20, a defensive lineman, and Hayes waited in a nearby vehicle about an hour later while he knocked out and robbed another student. Williams and Hayes both admitted to their involvement, according to the documents.

Williams and running back Brent Calloway, 20, both admitted to using a stolen credit card to buy snacks from vending machines inside a dormitory, the documents said.

All four students were indefinitely suspended by coach Nick Saban.

Pettway and Hayes were charged with second-degree robbery. Williams was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and second-degree robbery. Calloway was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card. Williams was released on $65,000 bond, while Hayes and Pettway were released on $60,000 bond each. Calloway was released on $5,000 bond.

''This behavior is unacceptable for any student-athlete at the University of Alabama and not representative of our football program,'' Saban said in a news release.

All four players were backups last season for Alabama, which has won two straight national titles and three of the past four. Williams didn't play in 2012. But he was one of the nation's top prospects the previous year and moved from receiver to safety.

The first student reported having his Apple Macbook Pro stolen from his backpack. Both sustained mild concussions, cuts on the face and heavy swelling, and had their wallets taken, according to documents.

University police posted an advisory Monday saying two students reported being approached by two men who asked for a light for a cigarette.

Police also said Williams had been arrested on a charge of carrying a pistol without a permit a day before his arrest on the robbery charges. Tuscaloosa police Sgt. Brent Blankley said in a news release that a clerk at a gas station called police early Sunday, telling officers that Williams threatened that he had something in his trunk after a fight about paying for gas.

Officers who pulled over Williams found a pistol in his pants pocket, the release said. In that case, he was released on $500 bond.

Jail records did not show whether any of the players had an attorney.

Pettway, who was a redshirt freshman, played in 13 games and had 2 1/2 sacks and eight tackles.

Hayes had 14 tackles as a freshman.

Calloway played mostly on special teams but gained 63 yards on 10 carries. He has moved around on the field, working as a linebacker, tight end and H-back since Alabama signed the onetime Auburn commitment.

Calloway was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession in October 2011 during a redshirt season.

A 65-year-old woman was pulled over by police officers while driving through Tennessee after the officers mistook her car's Buckeye stickers – those commonly seen on the helmets of Ohio State football players – for a marijuana symbol.

"It's just amazing they would be that dumb," said Bonnie Jonas-Boggioni, which pretty much sums up this entire story.

Jonas-Boggioni and her husband, Giorgio Boggioni, 66, of Plano, Tex., were driving home through Tennessee from Columbus, Oh., where they had attended a funeral for Jonas-Boggioni's mother.

The two were pulled over a few miles east of Memphis, along I-40, and were greeted by a pair of black SUVs containing officers wearing "body armor and guns," Jonas-Boggioni told Joe Blundo of The Columbus Dispatch.

"What are you doing with a marijuana sticker on your bumper?" one of the officers asked.

That led Jonas-Boggioni and her husband to explain the meaning of the Ohio State sticker, which is given as a reward to OSU players. To help the puzzled officers connect the dots, Boggioni stepped out of the car to show his 2002 national-championship sweatshirt, one "complete with a Buckeye leaf," Blundo wrote.

Chagrined, the officers excused the unwarranted stop by explaining that an officer in another jurisdiction had called in a report of the Boggioni's sticker – believing the older couple to be at the forefront of some sort of massive marijuana ring, it seems.

"Police hunting drugs should know that a Buckeye leaf — which has five leaflets — doesn't look much like a marijuana leaf, which typically has seven leaflets and a narrower shape," Jones-Boggioni told Blundo. Well, duh.

Before letting the pair off, officers told the couple that they should remove the Ohio State sticker from their car. "I said, 'You mean in Tennessee?'" Jones-Boggioni said. "No, permanently," the officers replied.

No chance. Have you ever met an Ohio State fan? "I didn't take it off," Jones-Boggioni told Blundo. "This little old lady is no drug dealer."
