    Suggestions for 30"

As the title states, i'm looking for some suggestions on a 30" monitor to buy. I will be coding as well as playing games on it. Thanks!

Are you looking for a real one? i.e. not a tv but an actual 1600p monitor?

Dell U3011 or wait for the U3013 in march.

Spend some time in this forum: http://hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=78

Most people either grab the U3011 or the HP ZR30w, depending which one they can get cheaper at the time.

I'm sure there is some used 3007's out there as well. I got my U3011 with some crazy discount code I found and pretended I was a small business.

Yes, i'm looking for a "real one." I have been using an old 55" TV and it is starting to die.

I am not sure what kind of setup I should go with. Preferably I would like to have two monitors so that multitasking will be easier or I can watch TV on it.

Currently Amazon has the Dell u3011 cheaper than the HP zr30w. I wish this happened during black Friday as the u3011 was $150 cheaper

I am also wondering how a GTX 670 FTW 4GB will handle two 27/30" monitors. Any ideas? Would I have to go SLI for this kinda of setup?

If you're open to a 27" the Korean monitors on ebay are fairly fucking popular. There's a fair amount of discussion on the forums about them, but if you have questions hey could probably answer them for you.

all the U3011 seem to go for 1250-1300+ but on Dell's site it's 1050 if that makes a difference for you

The one shipped and sold by Amazon is $1,099.99. Free 2 day shipping and no tax :D

I don't know what Dell's return policy is on things but little amount of money I would be saving by buying through Dell isn't worth the risk unless it was a lot cheaper.

As far as the Korean monitors. I would rather just purchase a monitor that is not from eBay (I HATE EBAY) and comes with a warranty.

    They have 1 year warranty!

    Spoiler: show
    If you speak korean

But yeah, they're nice, and really fucking cheap, but if you don't mind throwing a thousand bucks down on a U3011, you may as well get that, for a variety of reasons.

Ultrasharp 30" and never look back. I recommend that to anyone that wants a monitor that big. If you want to be a real boss - get 2 x 24 Ultrasharps, put them in portrait mode and sandwich the 30" .

Yes that 670 will do fine, you will never use over 2GB of vram actually at 2560x1600 either, and don't need 4gb vram till you start running eyefinity setups.

So I ended up with two u2713hm monitors. It was a lot work to do it but I got it done and saved close to $750 for the two monitors.

I bought two eGift cards at Dell.com for $500 each and you get a $90 promo gift card for buying the first.

Second I called the small business hotline and asked if they would price match their online price. Their online price on the Australian website is $559.00.

After validating my gift card purchases, I made two separate orders for each monitor and used two gift cards and a credit card to pay for it.

    The break down:

    $559 + tax = $592.54 x 2 = $1185.08 - 1000 (gift cards) -180 (promo gift cards) = $5.08 + free shipping =D

Those U2713HMs are some sexy monitors. I think my first upgrade after I start raking in the money will be getting a true 99% IPS.

Good choice, imho for 30inch Dell is really the only choice. Every other brand is ridiculously more expensive for practically the same performance, and I ended up getting 2 of them.

120hz > IPS by a country mile. Shame you still have to make that choice, but I'd recommend a 27'' before anything at 30''. Of course, that wasn't your question..

    I'll see myself out.

I'll say it depends on usage, 120Hz for FPS/Racing and other fast paced games and 1440p/1600p for RTS/RPG/MMO and general usage (more screen space). If comparing 1080p 60Hz IPS then yeah I'll say 120Hz every time.

There are Korean 27" 1440p monitors that can OC to 100-120Hz although they cost more than the normal versions and a lot harder to get (+ we have no idea how long they'll last when at 100+Hz), 120hz.net

I agree with the 120hz comment. Once you see the thing in action there's no going back. And it's not even just a gaming thing, dragging windows and all the OS animations are much smoother on my 120hz display as opposed to the two 60hz.

Sorry but once you go 30 you don't go back. Until they start putting out 120hz 1600p monitors there really is no argument.

I've had my 120hz setups, I've had my eyefinity in horizontal and vertical setups, and I've had my single 30 inch setup. I'll go back to the single 30 every time, because you can always add two more down the road.

I would have bought two u3011 during black Friday but I missed the price and didn't really want to drop money for those monitors unless I got some kinda of deal. The deal that I got yesterday on the u2711hm was hard to pass up seeing that I really only wanted to spend $1,200ish

I guess in march if the new u3013 comes out and is 120hz i'll replace these. I would really like a 120hz monitor but it's not a need as of now.
