the war is not over, and to see us leaving the region while declaring a premature victory is uncannily reminiscent of what Obama did in Iraq in 2011. can only hope we aren't returning in a handful of years as these fragile states collapse into chaos yet again.
Unlike Iraq though, we didn't break it. The idea that it must be our responsibility is pretty weak.

You can't compartmentalize regional conflict like that, what happens to a major ME power like Iraq will effect the region, to say nothing of ISIS which wouldn't have existed without the US invasion.
we'll need to make sure State relays to the dismembered Kurdish and Yazidi heads on stakes that it isn't our responsibility
and really make sure TSA phones the next Mohamed Atta that we promise it isn't our responsibility so he should turn his plane around
Are we still pretending we're at greater risk from terrorism than eternal war in 2019? I don't see y'all beating the drum that we must invade Libya. Why are African civil wars not our problem but Middle Eastern ones certainly are?

Because we haven't spent any time in the -immediate- past destabilizing that entire region.

An Islamic State suicide bomber targeted a joint convoy of U.S. and allied Kurdish forces in northern Syria on Monday, marking the second attack against U.S. troops in less than a week and further highlighting the dangers surrounding U.S. plans to withdraw forces after a declaration that the extremist group had been defeated.
14 service members have been killed in combat in the combined Iraq/Syrian engagement since 2014, in that period of time ISIS members and those affiliated with them have killed thousands in terrorist incidents, tens of thousands through more conventional methods of violence. in regards to the war under discussion the risk is exponentially greater.
and your Libya non-sequitur is curious as you championed intervention in that nation when the initial 2011 Gadaffi civil war was ongoing. what has followed since is not ideal but as we've discussed, at length, and on the same side, the pace of violence has slowed drastically and Libyan instability is not exported as Syrian instability is. the decision to intervene and the nature of that intervention must be decided on a case by case basis but geographical markers are irrelevant, one of the greatest failings of the Pax America was failing to stop the genocide in Rwanda, an African state.
Human life isn't the only thing at risk in eternal war.
Take that money and put it into health care or air pollution and see how the death toll changes.
So I guess India and Pakistan are on the verge of war again over Kashmir. A terrorist blew up a bus in India killing 41 people, India blamed it on Pakistan and vowed revenge. Pakistan vowed retaliation for any attacks. India sent fighter jets to Pakistan to do retaliatory strikes, Pakistan shot the jets down and captured the pilots.
Both are nuclear armed nations as a reminder.
It looks like both governments are trying to reign themselves in from going crazy with this, but yeah this could go badly pretty fast
So phone prices are about to go up?
