ye the rebels say they've reached the outskirts of Homs, taking it would bifurcate Assad's holdings and cut him off from the Russian bases along the coast. and it would not leave a lot of obstacles between them and Damascus. if the government lines can't stabilize there the capital could be under siege within a week. at this point i think it's up to if Iran/Russia/Hezbollah want to dump in the resources to stop the advance, the Syrian Army has degraded to the point of uselessness.

HTS are currently momentarily bogged down in Homs even as they send advance units towards the capital unopposed, but the remnants of the FSA have taken Daraa and most of the Southwest, and are the ones presently within a dozen or so kilometers of Damascus. Kurds continue to purify the East of any regime presence. government lines collapsing everywhere. couldn't happen to a nicer guy. only hope a coalition governing deal can be hammered out between the principal rebel actors rather than a fresh outbreak of hell through infighting.

oh it's over over, reportedly the Iraqi Shia militias told Iran fuck no when they tried to get them into the fight and Iran has started withdrawing troops from Syria. Russia reportedly has also pulled troops out of the south and their embassy.

"Iran is starting to evacuate its forces and military personnel because we cannot fight as an advisory and support force if Syria's army itself does not want to fight," Iranian analyst Mehdi Rahmati told the news outlet.
