So let's look at notable injuries around the league that had a significant impact on performance for long periods of time

Packers - RBs, Matthews and some other folks on defense, OL
    Vikings - Percy Harvin
Bears - mostly littler injuries week by week but not sure on the prognosis for certain people
    Lions - #2 WRs

    49ers - ???
    Seahawks - ???
    Cardinals - QBs for days
    Rams - Amendola

Cowboys - DMM, Sean Lee, OL
Eagles - OL, WRs a bit, Vick, McCoy
Giants - ??? Nicks was out for a while.
Redskins - Carriker and Orakpo, Garcon was out for a while

Saints - Not much really, unless you count the HC
Falcons - Weatherspoon's out now? No real big ones, Julio got dinged up a few times.
    Bucs - ???
    Panthers - ???

Ravens - Suggs, Lardarius Webb (biggest), Ray Lewis, Jimmy Smith, now Ellerbe
Steelers - OL, Polamalu, Ryan Clark now, a few others on D for a while, Ben
Bengals - Lots of people... between the OL and DL, a lot
Browns - ??? Haden? or was that a suspension?

Patriots - Hernandez and Gronk switched out
Jets - Revis, OL, some others I can't recall
    Bills - ???
Dolphins - Jake Long now, otherwise ???

Texans - Cushing, that's about it
Jaguars - Gabbert (POSITIVE injury), MJD
    Colts - That one guy...
Titans - Locker for a bit, some dudes on defense not that i tmattered much

    Chiefs - QBs, but lol
Chargers - Ryan Mathews for a while, Floyd? or the other receiver?
    Broncos - McGahee
Raiders - DMC (every year, this is their fault)

I'd say the teams that have had it the worst on the injury front have been the Packers, Eagles, Ravens, and Steelers. The two teams with the best records have had only one really notable injury on each side from my point of view, but it is interesting to see which teams take injuries in stride and which do not. The Patriots lost their 2 TE nightmare tandem and had a full playbook to go through without that; the Packers are used to having no run game anyway; the Ravens have depth but mostly.. got lucky a lot; the Steelers kept their defense dominant even without its stars.

    I'm sure I forgot a lot

    Niners missing:
    Spoiler: show

Kendall Hunter - he provides a big change of pace to our running game and has avg'd over 5 yards a carry. Without him a team like STL knows there is no threat (outside of Kap) to run outside the tackles, Gore and Jacobs are strictly North South Runners. SF RBs ran for an all year low of under 2.5 yards a carry last week without Hunter in the game. He is out for the season. We may start to see LaMichael James perhaps he can help fill that void, he's seen 0 snaps but our GM mentioned we may start seeing him soon on a local radio program

Kyle Williams - inb4lolz this dude helps on special teams (in b4 even more lolz) it fucking sucks relying on Ted Ginn Jr I fucking hate him and we have no choice. Ted Ginn Jr. is also a terrible receiver and Kyle filled a nice need for us in the slot and was reliable.

Mario Manningham - Some people think we don't use him much but imo he and Crabtree have been coming up big on 3rd down plays this year. He is out with a shoulder injury but no one knows how serious it is. If he remains out we may see our 1st round draft pick AJ Jenkins for the first time this year.

NOTMVPAkers - Supposedly he's had a hip injury, I don't really give a fuck he's one of the least accurate kickers in the NFL this year and the problem hasn't been range or power

they will matter in the next few weeks and playoffs.

also Akers has missed multiple FGs that would have given us at least 2 wins and maybe kept us in the MIN game. No one knows how long he's been injured just that he's been playing like shit. You of all people should know kickers matter.

I agree - at least on Hunter and Williams (Akers has been fucking up anyway) - but the point was more to look at how injuries have affected the season thus far. There's a lot interesting to look at moving forward, too:

Green Bay's second choice for RB is down and now they're back to ass Ryan Grant, while the Bears are without Urlacher - these two are fighting for the division.

Seahawks have suspensions that are going to affect them in a big way.

    Suggs is injured again.

    Ike Taylor got hurt.

    etc.

GB has injuries every year it seems same with NYG, they have to be built with depth. I don't think the 49ers have much depth at all on defense (except LB) or our oline, the most depth we have is our RBs most haven't seen many snaps. There was some guy talking about Justin Smith even missing a snap and teams getting big plays on us (happened vs MIN on at least 2 big plays), it sucks and is something they need to address. Our Oline can't really afford an injury

Right. And that's something that is different with every team, and it comes down to coaching and management. You want to know how the Ravens are 9-3 with their Top 3 in the league CB out for the year, the reigning DPOY playing at 50% in only less than half of the season's games by the end of this year, the star motivator and HoF MLB out for the middle push including both PIT games, etc. all out? Superior team management. Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh have identified some of the "best of the worst" year after year.

I think my favorite example right now is Corey Graham. We signed him when Webb went down and everyone was saying how shitty he was. Dude has single handedly won us a game, contributed to a tough win, and (had Cam Cameron not been an idiot) would have been a huge part of a win over PIT last week. Two brilliant interceptions, plenty of tackles, and honestly not that bad coverage. For a guy who had to come in when our #1 and #2 CBs went out, he's been phenomenal.

Of course, a lot of this is by design - the Niners have only recently come into their own, so depth isn't as easy to build on. Ravens have had long staying defensive powerhouses for years, so we had time in the draft and FA to build depth. I don't think the same is true of the Packers. I think they have some smart management and some strong coaching (though I am not sold on McCarthy long term as HC).

Thing is, shouldn't matter really how many snaps your backup to your backup RB has. They should be getting the same treatment in practice as the rest of the RBs barring some duty-specific rules, and they should be ready to go. Of course, when you have cancer like Brandon Jacobs crying in the #3 or whatever spot, it's a different story

Just wanted to throw in that GRIMES tore his achilles in preseason so we've gone all year without him. Pass defense has still been a strength, I can't even imagine what we could do with a healthy Grimey

Top two DTs (Rubin and PHIL TAYLOR FROM BAYLOR) both missed a chunk of time. Haden was suspended but also missed one game with a minor scrape. There's other ones (LG Jason Pinkston had blood clots in his lungs and is done for the year, FS Usama Young hasn't been 100%, OLB Scott Fujita was a non-factor, etc.) but none of the other stars (such as they have any) and every team deals with injuries.

Robert Griffin III of Washington Redskins has cleats and jersey headed to Hall of Fame

ASHBURN, Va. -- Robert Griffin III's week so far has consisted of his first Monday Night Football win, hearing fans chant his RG3 nickname throughout the Washington Wizards' Tuesday upset of the Miami Heat, and a Wednesday visit from an official who collected the rookie quarterback's jersey and cleats for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Up next: solving the NHL lockout and the fiscal cliff.

"He's a unifying figure in the community," right guard Chris Chester said. "I might need to bring him to my son's T-ball games."

Seriously, Griffin can seem to do no wrong these days. Even Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, who is hardly the easiest guy to impress, confesses to being mightily impressed by Griffin's charisma.

"He kind of surprises me in almost every situation, on how well he handles himself and how well he communicates," Shanahan said. "I wish I could communicate like that. I'm going to have him talk to the team -- in fact, I have the last couple of weeks."

Griffin has led the Redskins (6-6) on a three-game winning streak that has Washington and closing in on first place in the NFC East heading into Sunday's matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. He broke Cam Newton's NFL single-season rushing record for yards rushing by a rookie quarterback during Monday night's 17-16 win over the New York Giants, thus prompting the Hall to request his cleats and dirt-stained No. 10 jersey.

"Everyone wants to be in the Hall of Fame," Griffin said, "so we're in there. But I've got a long career, preferably, and this is only the first step. It's an honor to have my jersey and cleats, although they're very dirty, in the Hall of Fame."

But, by now, everyone knows Griffin is more than numbers. He practically upstaged the Heat-Wizards game when he took his front-row seat to roars from the crowd in the first quarter. Sure enough, a Washington team that had won only one game previously all season stunned the reigning NBA champions.

"What can you say? Those guys are the ones who played. I didn't play the game," Griffin said. "Even coach said I can't go over there rubbing off, using all my magic on those guys when we need it for us."

Such attention can be overwhelming for most 22-year-olds, but Griffin can handle it.

"It's humbling to have the fans, whether it's football fans, basketball fans, chanting or cheering for you," Griffin said. "It means you're really doing something for the city."

So, cornerback DeAngelo Hall was asked, is there anything Griffin can't do?

"Beat me in the 40," said Hall, a brave statement considering Griffin was a college hurdles champion. "Don't tell him that, though. He's got young legs, so he might think he can get me."

"The kid's special," Hall added. "He's on the verge of being a rock star. We used to travel with Mike Vick when I was in Atlanta, and it was definitely a rock-star-type atmosphere wherever he went. And RG is having that same kind of following.

"When we were in Dallas, we saw people who had on Redskins gear and jerseys, and asked them, 'You all Redskins fans?' 'Nah.' 'You hate the Cowboys?' 'Nah. Just love RG.' 'All right. We'll take it.'

"And that's kind of how it's been. Guys might not like the Redskins, but they love him. They love him personally. ... Or just like the excitement he brings to the game. People like him. Fans like him. And we're getting that reciprocating effect as far as Redskins teammates being able to get -- wherever we go, whatever city we go to -- people in the stands cheering for us. Whether they're cheering his name or cheering for us in general, he has that following."
