Oh I didn't know you meant the button. I set it to circle when it asked me what button I wanted to use at the start of the game. I was talking more about the 16 directional movement fucking with jumps. In options can switch back to old style
Does anybody else have a problem where monsters just fucking dematerialize after losing aggro, and then sometimes spontaneously reappear when you get closer?
I just lured the guys outside and melee'd them down. If you 2H, they all stagger pretty easily, and you can just backstep to avoid the hits w/o a shield.
Also random findings, for other people playing casters:

Quadavs are pure evil. This area is pure evil. This bonfire is pure evil. Fuck everything. Time for a 30m rage quit.
first time getting stuck now in the Lost Bastille. Always those damn knights with the really long swords that come at you 5+ at a time. Only made it through them twice now. the 3x boss right after that seems pretty rough too.
Lost Bastille and the subsequent boss have made me take a break. Pursuer was stupidly easy when I discovered the trap, lol. I haven't been invaded yet, oddly enough.
Wow you guys serious? I'm doing Lost Bastille as a caster, no shield and a dagger and those guys are easy for me. Literally just beat the 3 Sentinels boss too. How I dealt with the sword guys was just lining them up in a narrow space and using the dagger's thrust move and dodging backwards so they can't swarm me. The big dudes I just cast magic from far away but when one rushed me, I didn't have much trouble dodging (although I'd prefer not to have those close to me.)
Spoiler: show
I got invaded once but between me and one other dude, he got wrecked.
well yeah, the 3 Ruin Sentinels are going to be easier of your using ranged attack lol
I'm also doing the fight 100% solo. and with 50% hp cause I don't want to use any effigys until I'm sure I'm not just wasting it. Getting the fight down slowly but surely.
The 4 long sword dudes that rush me i just run back out the entrance and make that ramp circle right there until they fall or i can pick them off 1 at a time... two up ladder before boss i just climb down ladder after aggro and pick them off as they climb down. Use the lightning sword from guy under tree right hand and my mage stick in the left hand. That said stuck on the 3 people boss.
there. made myself human, summoned the AI sorceress and killed the 3 sentinels first try
woo used one of those square item things in the wall faces and found the luna belfry. Then I talked to a midget and then I joined a belfry covenant.
aaaand boss:Spoiler: show
After spending my first 20k or so souls in rings instead of leveling up, I was wondering wtf I could do to make myself less gimp. Then I started putting down my white soapstone sign for boss fights. 2.5k for the first boss, and 5k for the second boss. Quite nice.
Aaaaaaand just accidentally killed the host by shooting him with the ballistas.

Anyone explain or give me a link to explain the new humanity system? I didnt really pay attention pre-launch and it looks pretty different. Google likes to give a lot of DS1 info.
I know you lose health every hollow death, can be invaded as a Hollow (same rate as human or no?), and you can burn an Effigy for a pseudo "offline" mode. Other than that, is anything else different? Summoning players still Human only? If no, is there any reason to go human other than to boost your HP back up?
Can only summon when human, yes. Rather than burn an effigy to force offline, you probably want to save them for returning to human. Invasion rate as hallow is probably lower than as human.
It is. Also this game makes it abundantly clear that they want you to team up. Pursuer boss and 3 Sentinels Make that pretty obvious.
I had to start using a shield to get past the hammerbros. God damn.
Went past the Bastille today into Sinner's Rise. The area itself isn't too bad but fuck that boss. First boss that made me actually quit trying and come back later (after about a dozen failed attempts). You're definitely gonna have a hard time if you go down there without a good shield. It pretty much single-handedly convinced me to switch from medium to heavy shield on my caster.
So how do you get toSpoiler: show
