Man, don't think I'm ever gonna beat the gargoyles. Can't solo them, and when I am in human form looking for buds, I get invaded almost instantly
warning; this is my butthurt post about ds2
I posted this over on hardforum a few days ago, interested in the opinions of the hardcore souls fans (not necessarily the casual fans).
assuming this is gonna be a spoiler-zone, but i'll keep this post focused on just gameplay mechanics/graphics
graphics; the textures are noticably worse than DS1, the character models are horrendous and armor textures are garbage too. hopefully the levels look better later on, but for now DS1 looks noticably nicer
they really fucked up the control mechanics with this game, they completely changed how your character moves while running. in DS1/DeS, you couldn't just turn at a sharp 90 degrees while running, your character would run an arc, this kept you from falling off ledges while sprinting.. yeah they removed that in DS2, you can easily twitch yourself off a ledge now
input lag is noticably higher compared to DS1/DeS
the recovery time after weapon swings has been increased tremendously
the stagger time after your poise breaks or guard breaks is ridiculous, and they even added a new critical hit for when your guard breaks
penalty for dying is unreal, and human effigies are difficult to find to alleviate the death penalty. no cling ring this time, and as far as i've seen so far, no humanity (Human Effigy) farming from rats either, at least not up to the 4th zone that you unlock, if you die five times, you're stuck at 50% HP until you find a H.E.
if you use a human effigy to restore humanity, you aren't healed, it just extends your health bar back to normal, you need to heal yourself up back to full as a secondary action (lifegem, flask, bonfire resting)
warping to a bonfire doesn't restore your estus flasks if you use a homeward bone, you need to actually rest at the bonfire after warping....again, why did they change shit that didn't need changing
mob's are relentless if you aggro them, they chase you much deeper into a level than DS1/DeS, those Giants are ridiculous lol
with all that said, I am still enjoying the game but it feels like some 3rd party developer took a half-assed attempt at making a souls game, and then slapped "Dark Souls II" on it, i'm sure my opinion will differ from a lot of other people but i think a lot of that has to do with people being afraid to speak out on it
a lot of the souls youtube channels are saying not to expect dark souls, but to expect a new game with a new feel. except that's the problem, the hardcore souls fans didnt want the game to feel different, the gameplay mechanics in DS1 were fucking perfect as they were
Uh, there is a cling ring. It's just called the Ring of Binding. Dying really isn't a big deal. I've done most of my playthrough at 50-75% health.
And to Liroy, I don't believe there's a bonfire next to him. I vaguely remember having to keep pushing through a bunch of enemies to get to him since I died a bunch trying to jump to something.
Also, the Old Sun Ring is pretty sweet.
Hmmm okay. There were a bunch of signs saying hidden bonfire, must've been trolling me. Felt like a lot of mobs I just went through just to get to him. I'm afraid my first play through is fucked, I can't get anything accomplished, I just die a billion times on it (chose the dual wielding class). Sorc on the other hand is blasting through everything...
I checked the map in my guide and yeah, it looks like the messages were just trolling. My first character wasn't going well either, but I just kept pushing through and eventually found stuff to make it manageable.
Effigy aren't the only way to get back to human... you can help someone kill a boss to restore one death. Most boss runs are pretty quick and invites are almost instant, especially at the sentinels. Plus when you win you get a good bit of souls too, both from mob kills and the boss itself
Nah my char is like beyond repair... the very first bonfire, I swear he takes double damage because at 50% life he almost dies from 1 normal hit from the normal mobs. Today after I realized I had an effigy, turns out the very first 2 mobs near the first bonfire had already stopped respawning... I'm pretty sure I accidentally joined the covenant that causes you to take more damage...
You have the official guide? Could you check something for me? I've been going nuts figuring out how to get (trophy spoiler, nothing major)
Spoiler: show
It doesn't list the bosses required, but it saysSpoiler: show
Just gotta be patient and wait for openings. It took me a few tries but I finally got it down solo.
I haven't really had a hard time with this game so far. I think the longest I've been at a bonfire is the spot Liroy is at with the shortcut, and I think that was just cause I was tired. I'm still waiting for an Ornstein and Smough fight as far as difficulty goes for first time runs.
I can't say I agree with this. Everything responds immediately for me. And they also fixed the queue'd action glitch. There is a definite lag with opening the start/select menus, but that's definitely something else that's not input lag.Originally Posted by Reality

The penalty is less punishing than demons souls. And as others have said there is a cling ring, certain mobs do drop effigies, and helping people can restore you.penalty for dying is unreal, and human effigies are difficult to find to alleviate the death penalty. no cling ring this time, and as far as i've seen so far, no humanity (Human Effigy) farming from rats either, at least not up to the 4th zone that you unlock, if you die five times, you're stuck at 50% HP until you find a H.E.
Does warping to a bonefire via a homeward bone respawn the enemies?warping to a bonfire doesn't restore your estus flasks if you use a homeward bone, you need to actually rest at the bonfire after warping....again, why did they change shit that didn't need changing
Depends on the mob and the area. I've had plenty of mobs give up on me after only a few seconds.mob's are relentless if you aggro them, they chase you much deeper into a level than DS1/DeS, those Giants are ridiculous lol
You can leave covenents pretty easily in Mujula iirc. You joined the one in Mujula that wasn't next to the sad guy, the one that doubles damage taken and prevents you from summoning help, didn't you?Originally Posted by Chun Liroy
I think the kitty will let you leave it, so you can fix your character quite easily. I can't confirm since I haven't joined any covenants yet. If it makes you feel better, since I started as a swordsman with low vitality, didn't upgrade it yet, and had 50% max hp, the first boss one shot me with literally everything even though I wasn't in the hard mode covenant.
what's your point? just because you boned back to a bonfire doesn't mean you just cleared the area beforehandDoes warping to a bonefire via a homeward bone respawn the enemies?
unnecessary change IMOThis is because they're affected by stats now. You feel it's ridiculously long because your stats that affect it are ridiculously low.
