How many shards and bone dusts are there? I'm currently at nine uses of an Estus Flask +4; not sure how much farther it can go up.

guide says +5 is highest. Not sure how many estus you can have though. I'm trying not to look at too much of the guide until I beat the game once.

I bought the cat ring so I could jump down the hole in Majula but decided to do Earthen valley place first. Ended up finding an npc who sets up a ladder down that takes you down the hole lol

No idea if it'd work but I'd be curious as hell to see if burning a bonfire ascetic restores NPCs the same as it does enemies

It's right after you un-petrify the chick who's blocking access to a lever when she's a rock. And yeah, throwing knives have been useful all throughout my playthrough so far, though they probably lose their luster in NG+. I found some knives that do bleed damage too.

So. There are secret wall doors. You reveal/open them by pressing 'x' (ps3) on top of them.

So many shortcuts/hidden items. I just got a ring that reduces durability loss.

omg, give me a quick example so I can figure out how many of these I've potentially missed.

@Souj: I disagree, and comparing it to a quality of life improvement that only saves time navigating menus is laughable. While it isn't some game-breaking thing, it's an annoyance for me and there are several things they could have done to make it less annoying that don't involve removing/changing the mechanic, hence why I think it's stupid.

No one can argue that it doesn't make the game easier.
But artificially increased difficulty by making the player make mistakes through sheer tediousness is not a good thing.

You could argue it makes it harder because you can't just farm levels if you get stuck. And if you killed a pack 10-15 times.. odds are there isn't much challenge left in it anyway.

Outside of clearing the archers right next to the bonfire (people talked about it earlier, you know which one if you've been there), the only other place I've really run into it was the Knights in Heide's ruin, since they were easy soul farming fodder.

I think during the course of my playthrough my chick turned into a dude. Not sure how that happened, but I did lose power so who knows.

Any decent DEX weapons for early game? While it's refreshing to rely on consumables for big damage it isn't entirely sustainable until I get something decent to work with.

The coffin by the sea in the tutorial. Just go back in it and it'll turn you back.

I believe resetting your stats with the soul vessel is currently bugged and does that. Otherwise, it's that coffin you can "sleep in" in Things Betwixt like mentioned.

So I'm confused and maybe I'm forgetting how things work but...
I have a broadsword +7 that has 204+94 attack
and a Zweihander +4 that has 245+85 attack
They are both Slash damage.
Why is it that my broadsword does more damage per hit than my Zwei?

I can literally run through the gutter in like less than 2 minutes now (in total darkness) because of how pissed I got at two bullshit deaths that lost me my souls. I spent the next 20~30+ lives treating it like super meat boy.

Are you hitting from close enough range with the zwei? Previous soul games had clean hits vs glancing blows where you would either hit for full damage, or hit for much less if your attack barely connected. DkS2 took this system to an extreme, and your attacks can vary greatly depending on how close you are to the target. Even offensive spells seem to work that way this time around.

Idk if that is your issue thou, just something I've been noticing.
