I feel terribly nub asking this but I've never played a sorcerer type. Should I upgrade my staff or does that only affect it's terrible melee?

Affects your scaling so you should most definitely upgrade your staff.
Late to the party, and I still haven't beaten DaS1. Is there anything must-have to grab early on in the game? With DaS1, it was picking the key as a starting gift, and chopping off that one dragon's tail to get a decent weapon early on to help farm something better.
Is there anyway to farm Petrified Dragon Bones with ease? I used all mine stupidly on other shit and now I have nothing left to upgrade my Black Dragon Sword.
Just linking this 'cause I suspect it'll be helpful to anyone who likes to plan new builds before char creation.
Not as useful now with a respec option but still useful imo

if you use a bonfire ascetic at aldia's keep #1 you should get 2 bones just looting corpses.
Started a fresh character for a 2fist build. Is it better to upgrade 1 Cestus first or upgrade them both at the same time? I've plus 2'd mine so far.
Killed Last Giant, Ornstein, Dragonrider so far. Fists are pretty great. Though I did end up switching to a sword for Ornstein cause it was taking too long.
vgr14/end10/vit7/atn4/str20/dex20/adp9/int3/fth6 so far.
You should probably try to rush to the iron keep for the ember so you can buy large shards, then pvp in belltower for chunks and the free slab. Should be able to +10 both pretty quickly. No idea which is better though, but you should be able to keep them both upgraded til you get to large shards, then just try to rush to the iron keep. These things are totally brutal though, people you pvp don't expect you to hit so damn hard with fists. Won way more than I thought I was going to while farming chunks.
A really fun weapon that you guys may not know about is the Santier's spear. You find it in the Doors of Pharos and it's pretty useless as is, the trick is you need to break it which can take a while (500 durability). It has a rock that comes off after you break it and it becomes indestructible. This gives it an entirely different move set, it has like 4 weapons move sets built in. Has spear, halberd, twinblade, and a falchion attack iirc. It has no scaling, so it highly favors a mundane, raw, or poison build. Overall extremely fun and strong weapon if used properly.
Finally got around to making some decent progress. What happens if you don't go to no man's warf for your flame before killing pursurer? Is the ship gone forever?
wat is the fastest path to flame swath someone plz help. plz i already forgot how to get the first branch of yore
dragonrider > flexile (grab glove) > skeleton lords > 2 branches in harvest valley > ruin sentinels > straid
on another note, dual caestus run is going really well, much easier than i expected. only a few deaths, but some surprisingly easy fights too. went 1/1 ruin sentinels with 0 dmg taken, 1/1 gargoyles, 1/1 both rat bosses, etc. mostly just a quality build, but bumped up adp to 25 and it's been a huge help with the run.
Alternatively...
You could make your first stop The Gutter and on the very last dropoff just before you enter Black Gultch, there's a Branch of Yore. Then do Dragonrider, fight Flexible Sentry in No Man's Warf, take ship to Bastille, and then from that section it isn't far from where Straid is.
You wont be able to upgrade your pyromancy flame until you get another Branch, but if all you're looking for is flame swathe then that's the fastest as Gaira's way also requires you beat most of Forest of Giants and beat Pursuer as well.
The gutter's pretty quick and easy to get through if you know where you're going and just trying to get to the end without picking up anything else.
Well I just had my most hilarious death.
I'm on NG+ in Black Gultch farming the hand grabby things for titanite chunks. I had the whole area cleared of statues. I'd rest at one bonefire, use Flame Swathe on the tar pools, one shotting a graboid or two or three of them at the same time and killing the worms in the middle then resting at the next bonfire and going back and forth over and over.
I'm killing a worm, which I can kill in seven strikes of my weapon which leaves me with negative stamina but those 7 kill it. Except for when I just wiffed a single strike somehow. The worm retracted and I had no stamina to roll out the way. It sent me flying all the way across the glutch lol
how are you going to get to the gutter at start with no souls for cat ring, and depending upon class, still need ~900hp to survive first drop? also i made no mention of forest of giants at all. you said the same thing i did! harvest valley also solves the problem of getting 2 branches to tag straid and rosabeth both if you plan on using pyromancy heavily.
