It still takes away from the experience that Souls series is. The unwavering difficulty is one of the core things, it drives your experience. It makes the game memorable, it make you want to tell people about it. It gives you a feeling like you belong to the cool kids club. It's what made the game cult classic. If you work for something really hard and someone else gets it easy it cheapens your experience. It's just human nature.

til you see someone that played it on skyrim mode turn on normal and quit in 5 minutes

not that it really matters, anyway

what makes dark souls what it is is not feeling superior to other people, at least not for everyone

It's an amazing gameplay experience. As long as that exists, people bitching are just nuts imo.

Clearly Niiro and Plow have never experienced the casualization of a good franchise.
ENB knows whats up, you don't just add an easy mode without changing the whole presentation of the series to accommodate your new audience. Its what easy mode brings with it.

    Also, Cichy isn't wrong.

Let's be real here. The massive appeal it gets is from its difficulty. It's not because of how awesome it is, I'm talking about Demon's Souls here, but how damn difficult it is (it ain't). The series is infamous because it doesn't hold your hand and you play by its rules, else it will bite you in the ass. Sorta like driving a Carrera, if you don't respect it, it will slap your ass. If you master it you'll be cruising the streets like nobody's business. Automatic is for pussies and stick w/ a hybrid like Oblivion.

Really? You could make dark souls mobs not respawn and bam, ez mode while normal is still the exact same game.

souls games are so singly focused on difficulty as a gameplay element that they can't really hold up without it. they would have to change the game in a major way to accommodate even a decently satisfying easy mode.

It would be an ez mode. That's my point.

    Don't touch normal dark souls.

Add a mode where mobs don't respawn for ez mode.

If you don't play ez mode, you're playing the exact same game.

I dunno, Dark Souls stayed fun for me for a damn long time after it became really, really easy.

I mean, you'd think skyrim would fail on an unimaginable level given its actual gameplay, and dark souls without respawning mobs would still be one hell of a lot more challenging than it.

Is there even such a thing as a satisfying easy mode?

I've never seen it, I don't know if it is possible

I find it pretty fucking satisfying when FIFA has been cheating its ass off on pro to swap to my Messi semi-pro career and be up 9-0 at halftime (with 6 goals and 2 assists for Messi, of course).

But I mean... there's a whole lot of games that are infinitely easier than dark souls that are still extremely satisfying even in their core easy gameplay. Final Fantasy Tactics springs to mind.

Yeah but games like that usually have something else to offer like a strong story line told straightforward like FFT you mentioned. It seems like that's where they want to go. Make a storyline that people can follow so even if you beat it on easy mode you get some sort of satisfaction out of it. However, if that's true that is a huge departure on both counts from what Souls games are.

as it stands, i can't play it fucking player patches don't work with razer products, and they apparently cause all kinds of problems with game controllers not being recognized either. fuck the port, that shit is wack, and the company should be asshamed that they put a game out like that

You know what Souls really needs?
Enemies that don't always spawn in the same exact place.
Give a little variance to where and what enemies show up where.

On top of that, I'm kind of hoping their weather effects will include things like fog or limited visibility/sound through rain or darkness. Not Catacombs darkness per se, but maybe something dense enough where you wouldn't expect a goddamn frog or black knight in the open. Although I guess giant skeletons works too...

Maybe add mob paths to some degree.

Frankly I was surprised they didn't add server based monster placement in Dark Souls. It seemed like the logical next step from Demon's Souls. If they could change monster placement on a weekly, even daily basis, it could really keep the experience fresh and give people that first time feel. Phantom boss invasions for reasons to return to previous areas, Developer controled boss invasions for top ranked covenant members. Weekly area treasure hunts. Extra boons to invasions to herd pvp players into certain areas per week. Covenant versus covenant face offs. So much you could do without even adding that much in the way of content.
