They can't. Not conventionally. Sony did exactly what they needed to do and told Microsoft to go fuck themselves. Microsoft can only retaliate by proving their policy is better, but they're directly attacking the status quo. Unless they roll back on their DRM policies they're fucked no matter what they do.

Its actually pretty easy, IF they didnt go full retard when building the console they can disable all the bullshit measures and you can backpedal and throw a shitload of marketing money into people forgetting about it (easy to do in this day and age)

How far could they possibly back pedal? A lot of the games we saw during their conference today required the cloud for offloading AI. The used game thing is the only thing I could imagine them back pedaling on, but that still doesn't save them from the pseudo-always on bullshit corner they've backed themselves into.

They can't go back on their DRM. Remember, partnership with EA? I can all but guarantee that that DRM is something they're contractually obligated to as part of that agreement, backpedaling on it or terminating the contract would be liable to cost them more than they'd be able to recover from, and EA would jump ship to turn their exclusives into multiplat.

The cloud is not quite bullshit as you would market the game to require online connection or something. Gotta backpedal from used game and always online bullshit mostly.
