I think he's right, it's actually normal for the console itself to lose money, which is made up on licensed game/peripheral sales.

I'm certain that Sony will be losing more than MS on the consoles, I think they took a very ballsy gamble to try to get their system into many more houses first and recoup everything on having the greatest share of holiday game sales.

I also unfortunately think this means that if we do see some sort if flexible pricing structures on digital games, it definitely won't be early on; there's real potential in that area for MS to claw their way back into things.

edit: also if you look at my past posts i am very happy with what they did. FF15(god damn its about TIME) KH3(thank god lol) 399 watchdogs I never been a fan of theirs but it looks decent, used games I could say more too. But its not to whine about more so to show that there was the fact that you will have to pay $60 more a year. or if you keep it for 10 years, like they want its 700~ more. Overall I am super happy with the outcome.

You can buy 3-month blocks(possibly even 1-month) of PSN+ and then not renew if you don't want to do multiplayer same as XBL.

Unless MS completely flip-flops on the DRM, they won't be clawing at anything but WiiU's marketshare.

Although I'm no fan of Sony's history, the conference last night was pretty fun to watch. If I were to get a PS4, I've just never been sold on the feel of their controller but that's something I could get used to. The real question though for me is if it will be good enough -- not compared to the xbox -- but against PC gaming in general.

Agreed. But I would have to say most of BG is firmly in the PS4 trenches now.

I think it might be too late to go back on the DRM since this system seems like something they would have develop infrastructure for. However, if they bit the bullet and worked out some Steam-style fire sales and flexible pricing, DRM would be much less of an issue either way. I don't know if it's too late for them to undo the 24-hour check-in, but it's pretty imperative they work it out.

I still think I'd eventually get both, but most certainly only the PS4 at launch.

I'm not a huge Halo fan so right now I have no reason to even consider the Xbox. And certainly not at 500 bones. Even 400 for the PS4 is going to push it. All of our money is being saved for the baby and finishing the game room.

I could probably swallow $350-400 pending what other exclusives they get; I actually really liked several of the games they showed, DR3/Titanfall both looked awesome imo, but yeah I'd definitely give it at least a year or two.
