It's weak but it's not exactly wrong in the least.

Yeah, and if you're pirating shit you probably weren't going to buy it anyway so no sale lost there.

    Hence the need for DRM?

Uh, no? DRM doesn't stop people from pirating shit and it doesn't increase sales so I don't know what you're trying to say here.

Current DRM might not. It's intended to stop piracy though, that's the whole point. This new hot shit M$ is on, sounds like it's going to cut down on it quite a bit.

I don't think people who are buying a Xbox One think its a "positive" thing; I, specifically, just don't see it as too much of a negative to deter buying it.

If it screws over people who can't afford internet or live in a shitty area, that sucks for them.

So it is exactly like they said? Nothing is different than the current PS3 generation? They already have online passes.... this is not new. The number of online passes is not very large.... because people don't like to support games that use them. Also, since PS+ is required to play games online, you can always buy used games with used online passes if you want to just play the offline part of the game.

This is no different than the 360/PS3 status quo. If a publisher wants to slap an online pass on their PS4 games they're free to do so. EA would have to backpedal on its promise to eliminiate online passes, or more fully embrace the 'season pass,' or just find another name for Project $10, but Ubisoft/Activision/Take Two haven't exactly abandoned the practice.

This is what it comes down to. Its not about having a good connection. Its not about you only buying new games.

Its about willing giving up your rights as a consumer. Any game you buy for Xbox One you do NOT have ownership rights to. One day, Microsoft could shut down the servers and any game you bought, you lose all access to. Hell at anytime they can just decide that you no longer have a right to play a certain game.

Why ANYONE would PAY money to have rights taken away are beyond me.

Is it a blow that FFXV and KH3 are going to Xbox One? No, not really because with PS4, at least I own the fucking game and can keep it for as long as I want and do whatever the fuck I feel like with it.

Then you clearly are a moron if you can't tell the difference between buying a game that is ONLY online multiplayer and one that is a single player game.

    On DRM:

Anecdotally, releasing on PC without DRM leads to upwards of 90% piracy rates (source: World of Goo, Game Dev Tycoon, etc--it's an experiment that has been performed often). You can argue that the lion's share of those people wouldn't buy it anyway, but the truth of the matter is that a non-trivial amount of those people, given the choice of not playing it or paying for it, will pay for it.

If you have a 10:1 pirate-authentic ratio, you only need to convert 1 in 20 pirates to see a 50% increase in revenue. Given that almost all your costs in making a game are sunk by the time you are on shelves, a huge amount of that revenue is profit. (I know people will argue that publishers will just pocket the extra money and turn out the same tripe, so if you are about to make that argument stop and go read up on capitalism)

All of a sudden, you can afford to spend a lot more on making a game, and sell it at the same price. That leads to an increase in game quality. Alternatively, it may lead to a decrease in game cost if publishers decide to compete on cost rather than content/quality.
