Kinect Exclusives Everywhere

Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Business chief of staff Aaron Greenberg is teasing “tons of exclusives” and “world premieres” for Microsoft’s E3 next-gen Xbox showing.

E3 will be “all about the games,” he promised on the latest Major Nelson podcast, while Tuesday’s May 21 reveal event will ‘lay down the foundation’ for the new console.

“We’re really going to tell one story across two events,” said Greenberg. “So we’re going to start on the 21st and really that’s about revealing the next Xbox platform, really our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment. We definitely have a lot of surprises planned.

“I know everyone knows the Infinity Ward team is hard at work on world premiering the next Call of Duty: Ghosts, so we’re going to see what that looks like for the first time. People are going to get a great inside look at really the making of the new platform and the team that’s brought it to life.

“I mean, to be honest, it’s really about the team, the people here, that’s why we’re inviting people to campus, we’re going to bring them behind the scenes a little bit. We’ve never done this before and so it’s really exciting to be able to do that. But I think it’s a lot of laying the foundation, probably the best way to describe it, and then just a couple of weeks later we go to E3.”

He continued, “E3 is all about the games. At E3, I mean, if you’re a gamer, it’s going to be tons of exclusives, world premieres, and obviously even beyond that we have a lot to share between then and this holiday.”

Microsoft will announce a “historic” Rare franchise for Xbox One at E3, it has said.

Speaking to Polygon, Microsoft Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer said, “Fans of Rare IP will be pleased with what we’re going to show at E3. We had a limited amount of time today and a lot of story to tell. But Rare remains an incredibly important part of our development capability.

“That historic IP that they’ve built I think can play a real important role on Xbox One.”

Rare are mainly known for Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, and Conker.

Don't Expect Too Many Games from M$

Xbox One will have a big E3, according to Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Bushiness president Don Mattrick. The Xbox exec teased “amazing content” and ‘mind-blowing’ reveals for the industry trade show next month.

“Xbox is created by gamers, for gamers, so that’s our core, that’s our DNA, that’s what we do,” Mattrick told GameTrailers TV. “We decided that [today] we were going to do an unveil, tell people the name, let them see the box, let them see our vision. And we’re going to show such amazing content at E3—you’re going to be blown away.”

Microsoft has said it has 15 first-party games in production, eight of which are new IP, and one of which is a new Rare game. Two games, Forza Motorsport 5 and Quantum Break, were officially announced today.

“We’ve got more projects going on in our studios,” said Mattrick. “We’ve got this great team in Vancouver under the code name Black Tusk. I’ve seen some of the things that they’re working on.”

Black Tusk are said to be developing a new space shooter IP for Xbox One. But will it be at E3?

“Maybe,” said Mattrick. “You have to work on Phil [Spencer. head of Microsoft Game Studios] on that one. I’m voting for showing it at E3—Phil is still thinking we didn’t want to overload people with too many games.

Speaking of Spencer, the Microsoft Game Studios boss shared his own tease at today’s Xbox One reveal event.

“We’ve joined forces with the industry’s premier publishers to bring exclusives, to bring content first to Xbox, and to make our platform the best place to create,” said Spencer. “This is a commitment unlike any previous generation.”

Expect a HUGE 360 Announcement

Xbox One may be launching later this year, but that doesn’t mean Microsoft won’t continue to support Xbox 360.

Speaking to GameSpot, Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer said the company has a “huge” Xbox 360 announcement planned for E3.

“I think the [Xbox 360] is going to be very vibrant for many years. In fact, we have a huge [Xbox 360] announcement for E3 that I keep wanting to talk about, but I can’t,” Spencer said. “I think it will surprise people. I loved what we did last year with Minecraft; bring Minecraft to the box; six million units later it’s kind of a beast. I think there’s a lot of life in the [Xbox 360] for years to come.”

Perhaps it’s that rumored $99 Xbox 360 SKU?

EA Teases Battlefront Reveal

According to a blog post from EA labels president Frank Gibeau, the firm’s EA press conference will showcase “next-generation games like Battlefield 4, Need For Speed, a full range of EA Sports games,” as well as a first look at its plans for the Star Wars partnership with Disney.

Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore told Bloomberg yesterday that we “might see something about,” the Star Wars announcement during the presser, so this confirms some sort of news on that front will be revealed.

Yesterday, during the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen teased the firm may possibly revisit the Star Wars: Battlefront IP.

Square Enix today revealed it will offer dedicated video programming during the 2013 E3 Expo, taking place in Los Angeles on June 11 through 13.

The program, dubbed “Square Enix Presents” will offer a diverse and user-friendly range of programming aimed at sharing unique perspectives with Square Enix’s global audience.

“Square Enix will be showcasing a terrific lineup of games this E3 Expo,” said Akio Oofuji, marketing director, Square Enix Japan. “Square Enix Presents is a new way we can engage on a more meaningful and personal level with our community and fans and share with them the spectacle and excitement of E3.”
