Is anyone consistently NOT getting the Gear NM to pop and taking the same path up every time? Perhaps you have to go a certain direction on a certain floor to determine which gear NM is poppable? For example, maybe you need to go east on F2 for the east gear to be poppable on F4?

Last three runs I've done we went NW on F2 (to Guardian for Ritualistic), and we didn't get Gear pop on any of the three runs. The two before that I'm pretty sure we went east on F2 (towards Tutelary side) and we got the Gear to pop on F4 on both. Coincidence, maybe, but could be...?

We go the same way every time and have gotten it each time except the first time and the last three (Probably ~15 runs total), two of which were experiment runs with warping time and kill type. Unfortunately I didn't have the gears renamed until two days ago, but we had no pop regardless of which order we killed them in. Not sure which one we killed first when we were getting it to pop.

Nynja, can you check if you have any parses to show that the gear NM pop after you kill gear2 > gear1? So far all the parses on your post show that NM pop when you kill Gear1 > Gear2. This actually coincides with one of my BR2 run where the NM pop after killing Gear1 > Gear2.

1st BR today we took R.Plans on F1 (east), West F2 for more R.Plans, West on F3, and the gear NM did not pop on 4th. Already outlined earlier what we did on 4th.
2nd BR today we took east again on F1, east on F2 as well though, SW room for T. Plans, F3 we went west again, and this time gear NM did pop on 4th. Details in my previous post about it.

I always do ritualistic path only F1E, F2NW, F3E. So far I'm at 50% pop chance.

Yeah, I just went through the first 15 pages of this thread starting to accumulate stuff and realized pretty quickly that there's no pattern (seemingly) as far as path selection and whether the gear pops or not. Info I gathered is in the spoiler if anyone cares:

Did BRII today with MNK/war WHM/sch BRD/thf triobox:

1F: Rune (got STR, thus speeding it up) -> East (ritualistic path) :Fly x2 (2hr first fly), Pudding x1, Moblin x2, Moblin NM, Dahak, Dahak NM -> up

2F: Rune (got everything for all 3) -> Troll MNK in SE room -> Troll RNG in SW room -> open W door -> Troll PLD NW room (unlocked spellcasting for BRD here) -> Troll DRK NM -> Invisga to NW Troll PLD NM -> up

3F: Rune (got everything) -> Mazurka and ran to East teleporter (Important to mention that strangely with Mazurka, no sneak, no weather nothing aggroed me, never happened before, first time I had Mazurka, maybe coincidece)

4F: Ignored Rune -> Arrived here with about 55min left on the clock (according to my 2hr recast) -> ran straight to the room with gears, sang songs, haste, JA -> ran in, they aggroed me, killed both in about 1min - 1min 30 secs (berserk recast timer), both at nearly the same time (2-5 seconds delay between them), i do not think they used Restoral (in the 3 runs before, they spammed it, no Gear NM then) -> Gear NM spawned
proceeded with LBC -> Acrolithx2 Acrolith NM -> Gearsx3 -> Rampart -> NQ Cerb -> HQ Cerb

So the only thing i can safely say is that you dont have to kill anything on F3 for it to spawn in the East on F4

Did SSR for a change last night.

Nothing new to report. But I went around 1 shotting the ramparts before they could do reinforcements and still got NQ/HQ boss. Definitely speeds up the floor progress if you don't let the adds pop. (unless you need unlocks) I also 1 shotted the LAC rampart so he didn't spawn.

16 Ramparts killed altogether.

I just noticed the exact opposite with wind weather up. Same thing is happening as in BR1 - the gears get double aggro/link range. Seems to extend to 4th floor as well, as both gears in the first room aggrod me from afar.

Got the NM to pop too, killed nearly at the same time (about 4 seconds apart), 1min44secs since start of the floor.

This was the 3rd BR run today, for those reading my previous posts.

If I didn't mention it already, you can actually evade the Khimaira in Arrapago II if you feel like it. He had a 75% hit rate on me with this TP set on DNC;

Boxer's/Twilight/AF3+2/Athos's

If I was using a pair of AGI Thokchas instead, that would be a <50% hit rate. Blind him, toss on a mambo, whatever, and I'm sure you could get him to the hit rate floor.


I prefer to just blood tank him and cruise on through it, though.

In case anyone hadn't noticed yet, the distribution on boss drops is that heads and feet armor are more common off NQ bosses and less common off HQ bosses, legs and body armor are more common off HQ bosses and MUCH less common off NQ bosses, and hands are in the middle for both. NQ and HQ of each individual boss type have the same exact loot pool, but the distributions differ based on what I just said.

Yeah, can evade all the bosses, especially helpful on Hydra. Our THF uses evasion gear.

Also worth noting that the bosses must be relatively low level. BLU spells are actually very effective on them. In fact, they are just as effective on the bosses as any other mob in the zone, e.g. I've had 3k+ QCs. Azure Lore is actually worth using and pretty deadly.

Entered sometime on iceday, spent 85 minutes in the area, exited around 10:00 lightningsday, so I really have no idea if I reached 4f shortly at the end of ice, or at the beginning of lightning lol, someone else can maybe figure it out.

The info I wrote is based on FFXIDB.com, there's like 400 of each boss kill, so it should be pretty accurate. Heads/feet are always at the bottom of HQ lists and top of NQ lists, legs/body are always at the top of HQ lists and bottom of NQ lists, and hands are always spread around, nearer to the top of both lists.

If the kill order is the pop condition for the gears on 2F, there must be some way to tell them apart. Perhaps based on their TP moves? Aggro range? Immunity to something? idk.

As far as the gears unlocking everything, I already noticed last night that it isn't the case. I fixed BG Wiki to show the proper spread. Gear and Gears, together, unlock all attributes and HP/MP. Gear is half, and gears are the other half. Neither of them unlock magic/weapon/sub/JA or any kind of equipment, but most people wouldn't notice that since you tend to have all those unlocked from the first couple floors. I might have CHR or VIT in the wrong spot, but everything else is accurate on the list on BG Wiki BR2 page.

well i killed the 3 singles in both E/W rooms, and an extra one (37 i think) that woundnt deaggro, as well as the 8 gears on each side and kehhiko never got spellcasting removed. Thats some pretty shitty luck if they remove it.
