Don't use food? Top notch? Bitch plz. Food is pretty much an invisible gear slot from which you gain a pretty substantial boost from. If you aren't using food when it would benefit you at all, you're WILLINGLY gimp.
I think in bhaf an argument could be made. The single gear drop rate on alex is pretty low, even with TH7+. I cant use ffxidb due to shared names from SalvI, and kparser doesnt have a per-mob loot basis, but eyeballing, it seems pretty low. By all means, someone show me I'm wrong. I still full clear both 3f ramparts and all NM's with 10-15 min to spare, depending on pathos distribution. The usage of food may not up my alexandrite gains by much.
However, in a different area, where you arent full clearing, not using food is just pissing alexandrite away.
Even if you don't need food to full clear the zone before you time out, the extra time you save can be spent doing something else. Either way, it's a waist of time and effort for 0 gain(hell, if you're cheap on gil just use yellow buns instead). Moreover, most people are pointing out the fact that his post is just overflowing with ego, whether he feels it is warranted or not. I came here to get/exchange useful information, not listen to someone gloat about how top-notch they are.
luckily, through the cloud of ego, there was one semi-useful point in his posts. the mention of shark bite > shijin skillchain may be helping making the fight more manageable, especially if he is doing that multiple times throughout the fight. I still feel 1 merit into formless strikes will speed things up a lot, bringing me back to my first point. kill it, get out and get on with something else.
Edit: with that in mind, I would also like to find out what exactly physical dmg and magic dmg do, in regards to how much it lowers/raises damage taken, and how much damage is needed to have an effect. Is it based on amount of damage dealt, or how many times it is hit with that form of damage? I would assume the first. is it linear(both forms) or is it easier/harder to get the physical damage to go back up after you've brought it down a lot?
Jem posted that just throwing up endark caused a visible difference vs a group with 0 magic damage. It would be very hard to pinpoint exactly how it works. Skillchain damage should offset it as well, maybe.
Time is money.
Think of it this way, eating two RCBs will speed up your kills enough that you will have plenty of extra time, which you can use to kill two more gears and get two Alexandrite. Now you probably still have more time and you definitely have more gil.
My post was not so much about showing my ego as it was to give a reference point. very few people in this game have put as much effort into their mnk as i have. just because one person with a 99 mnk can do something doesn't mean all 99 mnk can do that thing. an afflictors mnk with non capped haste, below 75 gear would find it impossible to do the same things in a 99 salvage zone. they would be able to do some of the things yes, but not all of them. a mnk that has put quite a bit of effort but less than what i have, with food, should be able to do the same things. it's all in reference to prevent dissapointment by people getting delusions of thinking they can do something just cuz one other 99 mnk did it.
in terms of reducing the -pdt on cerb. Would skillchain lvl 2 be enough, or better to do lvl3. Matter of doing Victory>Rudra, vs Shiji>Sharkbite
Skillchain damage is actually possibly a bigger factor than the Endark now that you mention it. DRK skillchains very well with Mercy Stroke and it's something I didn't factor in since it doesn't show in my log. Don't expect to be able to not change weapons at all though (if you want a 3-4 min kill anyway). I have killed it just using Apoc before though because I forgot my Twilight so it is possible.
Also, not using food in Salvage is silly imo. Purely from the time saved it's worth it. I'd rather spend 20-40k and be done 10-15 mins quicker. Even if there's no extra gil gain, my personal time is worth more than the cost of food. Plus I'm not capping attack on DRK on a lot of mobs so it's extremely unlikely any other job does.
Christ, with sanction food bonus you only need 1 piece of food for the entire run anyway. And even if you don't finish that quick then average 3hr food is still going to be an improvement. Bison Steak/Hedgehog Pie/whatever is really cheap and still going to be a substantial improvement.
I've had no major issues with Cerberus (&Seether) without Formless Strikes. It does turn out to be much slower, but nothing like what people are reporting in this thread. Only other melee on it is a DNC and we are skillchaining near constantly, either Exenterator -> Shijin Spiral (Light) or Evisceration -> Exenterator -> Shijin Spiral (Frag->Light). I can't say the damage affects the PDT, but if it doesn't it's doing enough additional damage that the PDT isn't screwing us over. Formless makes it fairly laughable though.
Also, when its PDT gets high it seems to get really spammy with TP moves. I've seen 4 Acheron Flame/Hades within about 15 seconds, not that it's particularly threatening, just worth noting.
Doing skillchains on cerb does help slow the PDT build up, but you're still doing ~66%+ melee damage (if you're doing a lvl3 skillchain, more if it's lower)
