I'm pretty sure that making guns illegal would probably stop most 20-something white kids from suburbia from getting them and shooting up movie theaters, elementary schools, etc.

As a gun owner I'm always willing to defend the right to send the king of England home to his momma. I also think we do need better regulations on firearms (any gun owner who disagrees is likely too irresponsible to be approved for ownership in such a world).

But honestly, today, I really don't want to argue about guns, or video games. I can do that tomorrow. Today I just wanna be really sad about dead babies that didn't deserve this to happen to them, and so close to Christmas no less. I'm going to go to the best Chinese place in town and get a big plate filled with fried prawns (favorite food in the world) and put them on a pizza (second favorite) and just be a great big fat fuck. Maybe go give my baby nephew a hug. Anyone want to come with?

Obviously you don't want to straw-man or anything, but what if it just turns out to be another spoiled white kid in suburban America that's pissed about something inconsequential in the grand scheme of things? Its happened before.

I don't think we can slap the "insane" label on anyone who shoots up someone else, just because its easy to say "well no sane person would do that!" Its too easy, and still doesn't solve the problem.

But that discussion is for another day, after we figure all about what was up with this guy. Right now we need to bleed a little for all the parents out there that have to deal with this fallout. So much shattered innocence right now.

No... No. Sorry, but perfectly sane people with great lives and no mental health issues get upset sometimes. There is no way to screen or identify something snapping randomly on a normal person. This kid may not have had mental health issues.

My parents lost both of their jobs within the last 18 months, and my father may lose his other job next week due to some corrupt people in our towns government. Sometimes I would love to break the guys neck that started this shit. Doesn't mean I'm insane or have mental health issues, doesn't mean I want to go on a shooting rampage, just means I'm upset and would like karma to kick in and maybe this guy lose his job instead.

You can not identify something snapping in advance. Perfectly normal people with good home lives end up being the perpetrator in a lot of violent cases.

In NJ it takes 3-6 months to get your ID, and you can only purchase one handgun per 30 or 90 days. Concealed carry is almost non-existent outside of retired police officers. It's nearly impossible for anyone else to get a concealed carry permit.

Extend the limitations to one handgun per 6 months, one firearm per 6 months, etc. Keep the 6 month wait for an ID due to our intense background checks, require more references and employer information. Etc.

I understand, idk how they could possibly enforce anything else on that end of the spectrum. I just can't think of anything else to suggest atm :/

Yeah, the Aurora shooter and the Vtech shooter both had no prior criminal convictions and likely wouldn't have known where to obtain weapons illegally, though. Even if they did, they probably would have been too weird and socially inept to buy them. I mean, the Aurora guy was turned down from a gun club because he was too much of a weirdo. From a gun club. A gun club. For being too weird. Let that sink in.

Honestly I think the ideas are pretty good and a step in the right direction. I'm a gun owner, I approve of gun ownership, but this type of event makes me want to take a page from the UK and ban firearms. We have a British guy in our fire company that I'm going to see in about 2-3 hours, can't wait for his take on it. He makes comments about us all owning firearms all the time, and mentions how the police didn't even carry over there. People were more afraid of getting the shit beat out of them by the police then shot.

If NJ does anything right, it's (somewhat) our gun laws. Just take these laws, make every detail 6 months, and make them federal.
