The simple answer is yes and no. The kids are fine and the job itself is ok as well. Her program was at FSU and was very heavily oriented in the testing and giving assessments. But a few years back the RTI initiative (response to intervention) was launched almost completely removing the testing component so most of her job is spent counseling and doing other types of things. That she doesn't like because the testing is what she was largely interested in.

The largest frustration is dealing with teachers that don't want to do their job and parents that think their kids are special and having to babysit the both of them. As the school psychologist, in the grand hierarchy it's basically the principal, then assistant principal and then the school psychologist. Not in the sense of authority, but in who is looked to for answers. One thing to keep in mind, and no offense to any teachers out there, is that as the school pscyhologist you're the most trained person in the school. Teacher's don't really know what's going on and since you have the training, and will be responsible for doing a lot of the presenting of new initiatives you're going to be looked at as the bad guy.

My wife right now works at two schools and she gets 3.5 days at one and 1.5 days at the other. Neither school wants to give up time, and both probably require a full time psychologist so she has two schools worth of things to deal with.

It is very stressful, and very frustrating at the same time but overall I would say she likes it because the kids themselves are what's important and when that one kid runs up and gives her a hug and say's thank you it makes everything worthwhile and if you're getting in the field for anything other than that, then you probably shouldn't in the first place.

We're in Hillsborough county by the way. And, I'm currently working on my masters in school counseling. Ideally I want to work as high school guidance counselor a I think that we have too many kids leaving high school that are wholly unprepared for life. Even if I can help one or two kids I think it will be worth it.

    Two schools?

She's incredibly lucky. Most counties are 4-6 per psychologist.

It might be dependent on area for that, I haven't heard of that many schools per psychologist but then again, I wouldn't unless my wife told me. She does say that full time positions at one school are very much coveted and hard to get unless you want to work in one of the "ghetto" type areas. She is definitely lucky though, both of the schools are literally within a few miles of where we bought our house. Then my commute of course is 35 miles each way up/down I75.

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma high school student is in custody on charges he plotted to bomb and shoot students at the Bartlesville High School auditorium on the same day 26 people were shot and killed at an elementary school in Connecticut.

Police arrested 18-year-old Sammie Eaglebear Chavez at about 4:30 a.m. Friday after learning of the alleged plot Thursday.

An arrest affidavit says Chavez tried to convince other students to help him lure students into the auditorium, chain the doors shut and start shooting. The Tulsa World reports that authorities say Chavez threatened to kill students who didn't help.

The Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise reports Chavez planned to detonate bombs at the doors as police arrived.

The school district says students were never in danger. Chavez is being held on $1 million bond.

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - Police shot and killed a gunman at an Alabama hospital early on Saturday after he wounded an officer and two hospital employees, authorities said.

When police arrived at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham and approached the suspect, he opened fire, said Sergeant Johnny Williams, spokesman for the Birmingham Police Department.

One officer returned fire and killed the suspect, he said. None of the wounded had life-threatening injuries, and they were transported to another hospital for treatment, according to Williams.

The incident began around 4 a.m. when a hospital employee on the fifth floor spotted a man with a gun and called police, Williams said.

Police have not yet confirmed the man's identity, he added.

Knowing their approximate ages through guessing and media and whatnot was one thing. Seeing it written out on paper so clearly was another. Born since the time I graduated highschool even. 9 and 10 year old nieces that I absolutely adore. Obama had it right when he said they were beautiful little kids.

Why would they release the names of the deceased so quickly, and especially to the general public?

Now the families get to be harassed over being on Good Morning America for the rest of the month.

Year. And when the next shooting happens, they'll be on Piers Morgans show agreeing with his view on gun banning.

I was listening to the radio while driving around earlier, and one of the hosts said, "When they release the names and birthdays of those children it will hit you like a sledgehammer." After looking at all those birthdays in '05 and '06, I'd say that guy on the radio was spot on. Just horrible.

Even some of the teachers were younger than I am...

    Spoiler: show
Shit... we've been posting on BG longer than some of those kids were alive.

All the victims of the Connecticut elementary school shooting were killed up close by multiple rifle shots, a medical examiner said.

Dr. H. Wayne Carver said at a news conference Saturday the deaths are classified as homicides. He said he believes "everybody was hit more than once."

"This is a very devastating set of injuries," Carver said.
