There's supposedly some guy in custody that was found in the woods nearby in black and camo. I'm wondering if the shooter posted his intentions somewhere online and this guy came to watch

Say what you want, but such outrageous events are nowhere near as common in Europe because it's much harder to get access to guns here.
That's a pretty bold assertion based on very little evidence. It would say that there probably is an alarmingly higher frequency of these mass shootings in the US though.

Edit: I don't like it much on the other side too, I think it is too soon for Piers to be making comments like that. At least wait a little while before turning this into a political discussion.
Too soon? How about too late?

Should we have been in the waiting period for the last two tragedies in the past two weeks?

And yet this happened today in China:

I'm aware that it takes an extra step to stab someone rather than using impersonal bullets but to think that strict gun control is going to stop someone who has made up their mind on killing children is simplifying the issue.

22 children injured, no fatalities if I'm reading that right.

    So, yeah, gun control, people.

    Again, context.

We're all adults here, I'd think people could tell the difference between an ad for Battlefield 3 - a shooting game and breaking news regarding a maniac shooting kids and teachers. Seriously, people get asshurt for the silliest shit and make mountains out of molehills. But it's the Internet, what more could I expect.

More gun control and, just as importantly, more mental health care services.

The whole issue is it's bad timing, related or not.

I fully understand this can happen anywhere at anytime and we probably here about it more frequently because of the US being who we are, but similar things keep happening and it makes me really sad.

Differing views then. I don't even really see a problem with the tweet anyways. It's an advertisement for a videogame that references the trigger of a gun. Should we temporarily ban everything that mentions guns until everybody's feelings have settled down?

Also, I'm all for better gun control, but it's not a panacea to these problems. The rise in these occurrences should be studied to at least try accurately determine what is responsible for it.

Children create a different response in this type of situations. Yes, it should make a different, dead is dead, but from an emotional standpoint it's not quite that simple for the vast majority of people.

Gerenally, elementary students are view as being unable to defend themselves from someone like this, while a teenager or college student may be viewed with enough reasoning ability to either avoid or in some situations fight back (Obiviously wouldn't of matter in this case but it is there). Hends the idea of someone gunning down a child is emotionally view as more cowardly and inhuman then the same thing happening to someone older.

And I said they'll change it but to make a comparison between an ad for a shooting game and a shootout at a school as if the company intentionally intended to make light of it is being overly dramatic for no other reason other than being on the Internet.

No I think there is a window of opportunity for him to talk about it before a tragedy like this. If he is really passionate about it he shouldn't need to piggy back on a tragedy like this to get his point across. Either talk about it before a tragedy thinking that you would like to prevent it or wait until the aftermath of the tragedy has calmed down a little bit and then talk about it looking to prevent the next tragedy. Politicizing this horrific event on the same day it happened is the wrong approach imo.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said today is not the day to discuss gun control.

"I think that day will come, but today's not that day, especially as we are awaiting more information about the situation," Carney told reporters at a briefing.

Carney said the the attack weighs heavily on the president:

"The president as a father and I as a father certainly...feel enormous sympathy for families that are affected. As a father, incidents like these weigh heavily on him.”
Not sure if I agree with that statement, but I understand why it was said.

Bu-bu-but muh guns and muh right to bear arms!

The only real solution to gun violence is more guns. I think we should take a Washington Post commenter up on their idea. If the elementary kids were packing this would've never happened.

    What the fuck?

The "sacred" space of the learning environment are both profaned by individuals with murderous intent, the children are most likely suffering from psychological damage and the bubble we wrap ourselves in regarding safety is broken by a member of society who made the decision to kill kids.

Who the fuck cares if no one died in China? It's still a tragedy that someone woke up and decided to stab kids on their way to school. To write it off because no one died is asinine.
