And sadly with even the most rudimentary of tools, a grown man or young adult (Shooter was 20-21?) can accomplish his task in this scenario and enact the same damages.

It doesn't address at what level of disenfranchisement, what level of exposure to violence (de-sensitivity), what level of (insert other factor, can be as kooky as poor diet and the hormonal/biological changes it causes) turns children, teenagers, and adults into people willing to kill 5-6 y/o children.

The truly sad part about all of this is that no therapy is going to cure what happened to those kids today. Some will endure and be fine, and some will forever have that mark that taints their life.

Not sure if I agree with that statement, but I understand why it was said.
Today just isn't the day for them to go crazy with an argument about it. Too much to sort out first for the kids, school, parents, etc I'd imagine.

Media saying that the Principal was shot in the middle on the hallway, and kids had to move next to the body + blood to actually exit the school

So growups kept saying to close their eyes while moving

    Poor kids

You know, if as a society we can't change gun laws enough to stop this, I feel like that we need to work towards putting teachers into some kind of military training. I never ever want to hold a gun, but I would in a heartbeat to save my classroom if I had to.

I don't necessarily agree with this and I think you're playing into what the media does best - fear.

Adversity is good for children, learning that fear is a condition they put upon themselves is good for children. In our society, we expect that our children come home not dead, not beat up, not teased, but that is a relatively new concept in the grand scope of our history. I'm not trying to push for a 'back to the wild' mindset for raising children, and the thought of having your kids not come home because of something like this is unacceptable for sure - but let's not ignore the impact those other behavioral developments have on a persons life.

Who the fuck cares if no one died in China? It's still a tragedy that someone woke up and decided to stab kids on their way to school. To write it off because no one died is asinine.
Not writing it off, but when it's the difference between life and death...

The problem is you said this:

but to think that strict gun control is going to stop someone who has made up their mind on killing children is simplifying the issue.

And that incident just proves that gun control DID stop someone from KILLING children.

I hate the way this sounds, but I'd rather a child get stabbed where he can recover and live the rest of his life, than killed.

Teachers who (can in a moment's notice) hold guns and are capable of using it will probably not sit well with a lot of parents, methinks.

I hear this argument a lot, and I don't buy it. Knives, hammers, and axe, etc don't have the same penetrating power or efficiency that a high velocity projectile has. People can survive some horrific blunt force trauma, a full recovery. It's much easier to detain someone wielding a knife or club than an AK47 or glock. Could the guy have killed 26 people with a knife? Sure, but with much more time and effort. And likely much more resistance.

As I said, people are blowing my comment out of proportion. I am not homeschooling my kid(s). However, I shouldn't ever have to come to that conclusion over thinking of shootouts in the first place.

You keep saying this. No lie, only thing I've read on the shoot out is BG. I'm a teacher Xajii, and I think of how untrained I am for these situations, and I don't think it's right.

Whether or not that was the actual model of gun used in this particular instance, I took pause thinking about that being a legal firearm for pretty much anyone to own in this country.

    E: Also applies to Correction.

If I walked into a classroom I could be done with 30 people after the teacher was out of the way in a matter of 2 minutes or less. You're acting like an adult can't just handle the other adult in the room and hit the jugular of the 20-30 kids in there.

The more I think about it the more it seems like this is actually the matter that needs addressing. People are always going to be able to fashion lethal weapons one way or another, but the root cause of these kinds of events always seems to be that the person was mentally unstable and slipped through the cracks long enough that they went off the deep end.
