Problem with 1911's is the high maintenance cost and requires a shit load of practice to be proficient. Although admittedly, I seriously see it being my weapon of choice within the next year or so once I'm used to it.

Proficient in the sense that you don't get any leeway with magazine size. Otherwise it's a dream to shoot and does what you want it to. Maintenance, even just cleaning, can be a bitch.

Wanted to weigh in on what was said earlier..

I talked to a police officer once and asked him what was the best type of gun for home defense. He said a shotgun. Because if you surprise a intruder in your home that all you have to do is cock it. Everyone knows that sound. Just something to think about.

Intimidation factor for a shotgun is much greater, especially if it's pistol grip/tac light. Just think of how many dumbass people think an AR-15 is some magic nuclear space gun.

When you have that guy who isn't afraid though, then the pistol does the job better.

Just rig some speakers to play a recording of a shotgun being cocked when the door is open.

Then you don't even need a gun.
