Petitioning WhiteHouse.gov to classify the WBC as a hate group.

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.

This group has been recognized as a hate group by organizations, such as The Southern Poverty Law Center, and has repeatedly displayed the actions typical of hate groups.

Their actions have been directed at many groups, including homosexuals, military, Jewish people and even other Christians. They pose a threat to the welfare and treatment of others and will not improve without some form of imposed regulation.

It's currently at 213k signatures 5 days in.

serious question, can a hate group also be a religous group? I mean, I don't think the kkk has a religious status, and I can imagine they want it badly.

Just curious, Archi, what do you think is the difference between WBC hiding behind Christianity and the KKK hiding behind Christianity? I'm talking about purely from a speech point of view. Or, is there no difference, and as long as the KKK isn't hanging people then they should be allowed their point of view? Fo' serious question

KKK had their shot - they're a hate group because of all the hate crimes they've advocated and committed. As long as WBC isn't engaging in criminal activity they're never going to get pegged as a hate group. The end.

But they sure are the strangest combination of completely obvious and still extremely effective trolls. So there's that.

No, what he's referencing is that the FBI watches all hate groups more closely than they would normal groups as a matter of course, instead of waiting for them to do something suspicious first. If the Terrible Human Beings Club gets classified as a hate group, the FBI automatically steps up their observation of them to a certain level.
