    Lunch places in NYC?

So I'm visiting the city for a few days and I'd love to hear some locals takes on the best spots to grab some lunch. My dinner plans are mostly booked solid for this trip but I realized I don't have anything planned for lunches, so! I'm open to pretty much all types of food, so any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

find a hot dog vendor and grab a pretzel while you're at it. best food in manhattan that's relatively cheap.

Get NYC Pizza. I don't know which part of NYC you will be at, but just go on yelp and find the top pizza places near you and pick 1-2 to go to.

Pretty much anywhere you go, there will be a solid pizzeria within walking distance. Hot dogs from the carts are alright, everywhere, and pretty cheap ($2). The halal carts are pretty good too.

Any place with more than a couple hundred Yelp reviews is likely going to be swamped with tourists if you go there around lunch time (i.e. Katz's, Lombardi's, Grimaldi's).

The other night I went to Stromboli's in the east village, which was $5 for two slices and a soda. Not the greatest slice I've ever had but still pretty damn good, definitely better than anything you've had if you're not from the area.

To be fair Katz will be swamped regardless, those sandwiches are massive and delicious(I normally go to David's Brisket house though since it's in Bed Stuy nearby). If you don't mind skipping dinner or have a high calorie diet than I'd hit up Katz op.

Cheapest good munch around midtown I find is Oriental Noodle shop, Get there early enough for the fresh roast pork buns (~2$) and you're in for a delicious treat. Papaya Dog is also acceptable for a cheap gut bust and there's a couple of those. Hard to help with lunch places if you're not gonna say what you're around.

Oh, sorry! I'm staying with family in Long Island City right on the 7, so getting to midtown is incredibly easy.

If you want a gigantic slice of pizza for a few bucks for the novelty, you could try Koronet Pizza on Broadway between 110th and 111th if you're in that area. But yeah there's seriously an infinite number of places to pick from.

I was thinking of starting a super thread for NYC since I'm newish to the city.

My all time favourite restaurant in the city is Gaia's italian cafe (http://www.yelp.com/biz/gaia-italian-caf%C3%A9-new-york).
The most amazing Italian food I've had for next to nothing in price (5 dollars for the best lasagne I've ever had). Its the kind of place where you pick up a few things from the menu and share. Panini's for 5$, big pasta plates for 10$.
On weekdays she closes at 7pm, and get there early, because she tends to work there alone and takes awhile to cook the food. She also allows BYOB, so go to the off-license near by and pick up some wine for the wait.

Since people are suggesting pizza, I had this really delicious novel pizza in the East village where they fry the dough for a second and goddawm is it good. Pizza is a bit pricy (11$ for a personal size pizza) but the quality is so good I'd recommend it. http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-montanara-new-york

Oh! and if you are in the mood for gourmet chicken fingers (there was a google goupon for it, which might still be around). This place is crazy with how intense they are about chicken fingers/tenders. The staff are all super cool and help you pick out exotic sauces etc. http://www.yelp.com/biz/stickys-finger-joint-new-york . Its a little pricy for me (recent grad) for chicken fingers (at 11 dollars a serving). But, if I was a tourist with some extra cash I'd deff go for it.

Personally I hate having to find somewhere to eat in Midtown, its always super touristy, super bleh, and super expensive. Same can be said for going out, if you are looking to go drinking avoid midtown like the plague.

Like Cliron said, Midtown isn't really the best place to go for lunch in NYC since it caters to tourists. You can find more interesting options elsewhere.

I've worked in Midtown East for 3 years and these are the places I go to regularly. For street meat, Uncle Gussy's Truck on 51st and Park. They always have a line, but it moves fast. They've become my #1 pick when getting street meat on the east side. Famous Halal on 53rd and 6th is also really good too.

For ramen, Hide chan on 52nd and 2nd. I've been to several ramen places on the east side and Hide chan is my favorite. Everyone will tell you Ippudo for ramen, but I don't think it's worth the hour wait and the trip to the East Village. There are several Japanese fast food type places on 41st and Madison if you want curry, donburi etc.

If you find yourself in Koreatown, check out Woorjip or Kunjip. Woorjip is more fast food style and Kunjip is more of a late night dive kind of place.
