Newt Gingrich: The reality of same-sex marriage is inevitable

A paraphrase of his words, but dang:

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner...state-sanction

Gingrich "continued to profess a belief that marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman," Sam Stein and Jon Ward report, but "suggested that the party (and he himself) could accept a distinction between a 'marriage in a church from a legal document issued by the state' -- the latter being acceptable."
Of the change, though, Gingrich said, "I think that this will be much more difficult than immigration for conservatism to come to grips with."
    Lest we forget:
In the interview, Gingrich acknowledged his half-sister, Candace Gingrich-Jones, who works at the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT political group. Stein and Ward report that Gingrich said he has gay friends who've gotten married in Iowa.
Excerpted from a longer interview with HuffPo

Newt Gingrich blames Mitt Romney for being a bad candidate.

More than that, he blames the Republican party for fostering a corrosive culture that produced Romney as its candidate. The former House Speaker argued that the GOP has grown stale and introverted, putting itself on the wrong side of history on issues like immigration and painting itself into a corner on others, like gay marriage.

Oh say that now that the political aspirations for president are over.

Newt is as slippery as his namesake but he really is adept at playing politics. I prefer Ideologues like our good friend Rick Santorum or Rick Perry.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

As much as I don't like Newt, you gotta be glad he said it. And he said it exactly the way I've been wanting people to say it in regards to convincing the religious nuts to allow it, which is:

"suggested that the party (and he himself) could accept a distinction between a 'marriage in a church from a legal document issued by the state' -- the latter being acceptable."

I'm not glad he said it, because he's only saying it to say it. The Republicans have found a new way to get votes and it's called appeal to the non-white-non-rich crowd.

Um, let's slow our roll on them actually finding new votes with this method. They're beginning to try, yeah.

Wait, are people here really mad that at the prospect of the Republican party changing direction? They see the direction things are going and are changing accordingly. Of course they are only doing it for votes, but progress is progress, and this is one way progress is made

funny part to me is how open they are about it, they're literally out there giving interviews like "Well, we need to find a way to get Latinos, gays, and women to think we care about them"

the mayad isn't the direction change, it's the feeling that it's not sincere

Of course it isn't sincere, lol. I doubt Newt has a sincere bone in his body. When you put these guys up like this you put them in a position where they're damned if they do and damned if they don't, though, which gives them more incentive NOT to change their positions because of the ol' flip-flopper stigma

Yeah I recognize that they're in a pretty crap position there, but they kind of did that to themselves. You don't go on record being anti-Mexican/gay/female/poor for 2-3 decades then expect people to believe you when you're like oh wait, we lost an election, we care now!

This is the same guy that tossed his wife into the proverbial meat grinder on her sickbed. I'd trust this guy as much as I'd trust an escaped convict.

I mean all politicians are to be seen with extreme skepticism but Newt? Bring out the microscopes.

Being against republicans making these statements is partisan and polarizing, because it means you're against progress in these matters simply because you distrust one party. You don't trust them? That's cool. But to try and hold this progress back because you don't want the republican party to do better next election is stupid. Having big shots in the party call for changes may bring about these changes and should be encouraged.

This is dumb as hell because it's clumping together all the republicans, whether they were from 3 decades ago or just recently elected.

I honestly wonder if it's ever even remotely occurred to him that he led it along that path every step of the way...

Are you stupid Maz, or just Canadian? They're not calling for a change in values, they're calling for a change in politics. It's not genuine.
