I don't care if you're conservative, but please don't try and act like this is some sort of revelation when it isn't.

Isn't the first step to recovery admitting that you have a problem?
No. That's rehab. Anyone can admit there's a problem. This is more like that meth addict who swears they won't use again just so the gubment doesn't take their baby.
If you have seen any of my posts in the past two months or so it would be pretty damn obvious.
I'm now convinced you don't so much read as slam your face into your monitor and look at the pretty pictures in your addled mind.
I didn't say it was a revelation. I said it was a step in the right direction. Or are you going to sit here and tell me that a major Republican saying "Maybe gay marriage isn't worth losing the country over." isn't a good thing.
All I'm doing is reiterating my point.
In any two party system politics, both parties are equally important.
Because they have the sole responsibility of debating and defining our future.
If one party fucks up, the other party can become lax, or even corruptive because easy elections.
I believe there are equally many many good people in both conservative and liberal side,
who all have good heart and good will and wanting a better tomorrow for all.
It is merely that different perspectives bring different costs to the same social optimal.
I believe Newt is a complete opportunist and a seasoned politician,
but I am glad he is doing this for the Republican party (mostly for himself, of course)
you see Adam Smith's invisible hand working here.
This is what I read. My apologies, because I didn't think I had to articulate myself using l337speak in order to prove a point. That being said, since I am at my laptop, I can muster up the intellectual drivel enough to form a point you can understand.
It's called evolution of thought. As you get older (and wiser - mind you, some do not reach this level of thought and simply stay programmed) you tend to view life from a more objective point of view. You begin seeing that some things simply do not matter in the grand scheme of life. What was my point? I was simply saying that even if you were a fan of Newt (which you admittedly are not) believing that this is somehow a change of belief is ignorant. I am sure Newt doesn't even care about Gay marriage and whether it matters or not. He knows the voters care. Being that the voters care, and those that do are now the majority and not the 47%, he will now exclaim that he does care. This is known as pandering.I'm not a fan of Newt, but even my own stance on gay marriage has changed. I used to pretty much vote along party lines like my parents, but to be honest, one day I just realized that it really doesn't matter if two dudes want to marry. It doesn't harm me, or my family, so I don't give a fuck. I voted for it in Washington even though I knew full well it would pass regardless of my vote.
To which I have answered that I do not care much for the terms "conservative" or "liberal" because those of us on a higher plane of thought than "lol I put sugar in my sugar to get my sexbox and gamestation 9" all have conservative and liberal elements within us. That's why beliefs are so dynamic in the first place. Labels are demeaning and useless because they pigeon-hole people into an unnecessary train of thought.I shouldn't have to say this but conservatives come in many flavors. A lot of us are quite dejected with the current choke hold some of them have on the party as a whole. The dumbass moves, illustrated by the last election but going far back from there, have pretty much left me with no party. I want to vote conservative, but at the same time I don't want to vote for someone as buttfuck retarded as some of these candidates are. And the prospect of not voting or voting liberal runs very much against the issues I do care about.
And my response was that it isn't completely horrible. It simply is just ridiculous to believe that this is somehow a change in anything but superficial politics. By all means, open the discussion that people should have been having decades ago. This revelation is nothing new to people who have genuinely cared about the poor and homosexual since they were born. This is not about a change in political practice. This is about a change in fascia so that the new social majority falls for it and begins voting for them.I guess my point is it's fine to think Newt is a twit, because he is, and it's fine to think that he's doing this not out of his own beliefs, but because the polls tell him so, but don't bash it as something completely horrible, because at the very least it opens the discussion for those of us who would like to see the party move away from retardedland and into something that at the very least can be elected.
Now, in response - is it a hopeful step in the right direction? Only time will tell. It is a little premature to be heralding this as the much-needed change in policy when:
1) Coming from Newt Gingrich, of all people.
2) Republicans right now are currently blocking much-needed legislation.
If you have read anything I have ever said on these forums you would know that I am one of the more open-minded posters on this forum. My diction might be rough and disorganized (and even downright insane) sometimes, but I am anything but narrow-minded and "gleaming" when it comes to posts. Sometimes I'm at work trying to work on patients and I get only a few seconds to glance over the forum during a break. I don't particularly have the time to analyze every individual word.
In short, I'll believe it when I see it.
I recall there being more posts in this thread
Nothing of value was lost.
That's the difference. You see the invisible hand shifting things towards how they should be because that's "what it does."
I see a party whose actual leaders, and loudest voices, (not some random forum like we'd have been had the dems lost) came out right after the election to publicly declare that the reason they lost the election had nothing to do with the main focus of the election, and was actually just because the voters are fucking stupid lazy assholes that don't know any better...
And now just trying their damnedest to figure out a way to trick those silly stupid voters back into their camp.
