They'll probably give us a week or two to download it before the expansion actually goes live and we can go to adoulin and stuff, no? That way its not every single person downloading it at the exact same time trying to get online.

I see, that is unfortunate, guess I'll just have to hope that the CD gets an individual release in the future.
Regarding the issue with the physical copies, I would also prefer having a physical copy of the game; megabytes will never beat the aesthetical value of a series of games correctly lined up on my shelf. I understand why we're not getting physical copies, but it's still a pity. Might have to look at the Japanese disc case and see if it would stick out.
No, just a day. The dates on the site are the release dates for the software. i.e., you can download SoA on March 26. The content goes live on March 27.
On Amazon, the digital copies say this: "This item will be available to download on March 26, 2013 at 12:00 AM (US/Pacific)"
FYI, the 360 version is available for preorder on Amazon:
Game only: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-...dp/B00B23MO9Y/
Collection: http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Ultima...dp/B00B23MODA/
Oh well that seems dumb lol
Yeah that's right it was just for the PC version that they messed up shipments. I remember I did the same thing (bought 360 version) and then I had to torrent the game so I could play on PC... and it was like the EU version so there was some fooling around in the registry to get it to install right. Good times.
I remember back during the release of WotG my area wasn't gonna get the physical copy early.. but EU had already gotten it, so someone torrented it.
People were then installing the EU version and editing the registry so that the install would recognize.. or something like that.
And later on, people had extra codes - my copy still didn't arrive so i ended up buying a code off someone here, and later on selling my own.
It was kinda fun - cheap thrill for accessing the areas before most of my local friends did.
...as for the amazon thing.. they really aren't too bad. I bought the Ultimate Collection off Amazon and the whole code registration is pretty easy.. (i only registered the beret).
I was under the assumption that even if you did a direct download from SE you'd still need to fill in the registration code. as per old expansions, installation only puts game data in your PC. your POL (now SE) account has to be managed separately when you purchase content IDs
Another thing about them moving to digital downloads. What if you have to reinstall? Will they provide a download link for the expansion for people who have already bought it?
The code is saved to your amazon account I believe. If you use Steam, you can just reinstall using your account as well. Much better than keeping track of multiple disks.
Having bought the game from their squareenix store once (Where they make you download it from a third party, basically), the link is only valid for a few months, which means after that you're basically on your own as far as I know, which is pretty dumb, but at least they don't crack down on XI torrents or anything like that.
EDIT: Oh right, steam. I guess if you got it off steam you could just download it again, yeah. If you buy it from the SE store you're boned if you have to reinstall though.
This is correct. I'm most likely going to use Amazon just because it's simple and their servers are probably more reliable.
Spoiler: show
Nine!?

?
I'd be grateful for one too if you still have some left!
how does this work with amazon, because I need prolyl a US version of SoA, but Amazon.com only offers digital download to US/PST users and declines EUs for that matter. Do I still get a code via mail, if I order it there? (if I can even order it at all as a digital copy). Because I have found NO place whatsoever to get a digital US copy...
I am useing US playonline and all other Expansions are US version too for PC. I think I need this one on US version too otherwise knowing the spaghetti code of Playonline an EU version wont work (someone enlighten me up if this is NOT true).
PS: Those Destrier Beret codes aren't used if you happened to want one.![]()
Get the digital EU copy then change the registry so it thinks it's a US copy. It's pretty easy to do. There an entry like PLAYONLINE_US that you change to PLAYONLINE_EU or something. Don't remember 100% but did it to get a torrented US copy of WotG for my EU version as I lost the disc.
I'm honestly not sure how that's handled, if you are able to purchase it, it should still list your code in your library. I know the US version is available for preorder on the SE website, are you unable to use that (or would just rather not)?
A VPN would be a fairly simple solution, I'd think. I believe OpenVPN (https://www.privatetunnel.com/) gave me a 10GB of data free trial when I first did it, and it allows you to connect through several places within the US (or Canada).
Ah.
Got any friends in 'merica who could buy it on your behalf and you pay them back?
