^ We'll probably wind up with some relatively-tasty version of that. There's enough choice while still allowing for SE to essentially direct you to wherever they want you to go.

@Rocl: As a career Drg, Ranger was the enemy. It was Cowboys and Redskins; Packers and Greenbay; Yankees and... well.. everyone else. You hated them, even if you partied with them. The only time I liked or appreciated them was when I was on bard with my own 5-man firing squad that I perma-buffed: I'd have them all stand in a line with the same weapons, firing at the same time - on MY mark, and not before.

Someone was actually asking for an old school FFXI leveling system? Where do these autistic nerds come from?

My first job was DRG also...soon after NA launch, but I was stationed in Korea and got lucky on a JP party in Valk that asked to perma static and we met every couple days and leveled for 5 hours exactly. Not any more, not any less. Nobody went afk, nobody said brb, nobody said wc...you fucking leveled. lol...looking back it was really weird because nobody talked at all. Only one of them spoke any English and he wasn't great at it. I got DRG75 with a quickness though. XD

Yeah because other linkshells weren't doing the same. These 10k/hour EXP parties required stacking of jobs like WAR to achieve it and people in general didn't want that to be cut to 9k/hour or whatever because they had a less efficient job wanting to join in.

I didn't mind so much being excluded from good EXP parties for leveling the wrong DD anyway, but the end-game situation was the same and that's where it started to suck. The worst fucking part was you were still required to turn up and camp Fafnogg or whatever for your DKP despite the fact you had almost 0 chance of getting into the party. You'd get in as a reward for pulling the NM solo.

XI had 3 or 4 DDs which were effectively excluded from end-game. You even had to level up certain jobs just to get into a CoP mission party. If you didn't have an A* rated job you were undesirable in that game, a different thing to being hated. I believe linkshells even had entry requirements stating you must have X, Y or Z leveled. If you didn't, go level one, by which time their entry requirements now specify two from that list. You were also severely limited in linkshell choice if you were against botting, because the majority did it.

It all boils down to bad design on SE's part, not player hate or bad linkshells. They shouldn't be designing content where certain DDs are useless. It's fine having one DD a bit better than the rest because 100% balance can never be achieved but having a class so useless no one wants it in the party is retarded. THF, DRG, DRK and MNK all got shat on for the majority of end-game. Probably others too.

XIV created its own problems being so rigid with that multiple of 8 requirement. 14 people logged in on your LS? Tough shit, 6 of them can go log off or sit hoping 2 more login. Hence my earlier comment about the hardest part of the content being forming a group. In XI you'd take all 14 with you. I'm sure you're going to come back and say "grab 2 randoms/buddy list mates?", but what about their own linkshell commitments? What about their linkshell's strict policy of disallowing members to do end-game events with other linkshells?

But I can accept that it's difficult to design content that is both flexible in group size and remain equally difficult, it's more work for the developer. SE allowed you to take 4 man groups into dungeons, the problem is no one would do it because the content was still set up for 8. It lacked those extra variables to ensure a 4 man group doesn't have a harder time than the 8 man group.

Won't dungeons scale to party size? Or is that just a GW2 thing (with certain events)?

    Ask him about Utsusemi sometime.

Also ToAU was 2006, so I do believe Ranger's heyday was over not long after that but I can't even recall when the 2-handed buff was.
RNG's interminable reign of dominance was all the way from April 2004 (guillo/pentaspam nerf) to July 2005 (ranged nerf). Listening to Lucavi, you'd think was 5 years or some junk.

For the record, DW/H2H dominance was July 2005 - August 2007, and 2h dominance was August 2007 - June 2010 (I guess? end of 75 era). RNG had the shortest reign of the bunch.

Here's the issue with OMG MAKE UR OWN PT NOOBS: how often are the holy trinity on and looking for party?
What does this have to do with being an unloved job?

The only difference is being the person stuck typing /search vs. setting your flag, getting an invite, and AFKing while you waited for someone else (usually: unloved job) to finish the searching.

Honestly, the primary difference between princess job and prole job was whether or not you were the one doing the searching.

(What happens when you & your bros are all leveling DD jobs? I mean... how many fucking damage dealers did XI have? Too fucking many.)

btw it sounds like Sephiroth had a shitty linkshell or everyone hated him there too, that's totally what my Elcura example was getting at (besides high5ing him for being awesome and QQ we used to be so good together)
This brings up two points of interest:

    1) At a certain point in the game, you needed to have more than one type of job. If your jobs are DRK/DRG/MNK and you can't find a party on DRK, well, sucks to be you. Level a princess job, help your LSmates level their unloved jobs, and the favor will be returned in any shell worth keeping. Which brings us to point 2...

    2) If you didn't have any LS mates to form parties with, WTF were you going to do when you got to 75 anyway? That excuse might work for your first 75, but after that, it's null and void. If you were so unwanted and alone that none of your friends were willing to even exp with you, you weren't going to accomplish anything in XI anyway.

If you don't wanna quest for exp here's the solution: don't do it!
You're not forced to quest if you don't want to so why do you want to force others into the same old grind anyway?

Autistic nerds eh..sounds like a compliment more than an insult since there's been a lot more autistic people who are better off than your typical gamer of today, especially MMO gamer, especially if you read the OF.

I like quest systems better than XI leveling because in XI leveling there was zones you never even bothered with. We fought crawlers, crabs, goblins, beetles, bats pretty much the entire time back in the day. Very rarely did I end up exping in off the wall places, a quest system really gets you into the world. Back in the day on WoW, in the 40's, you could do Ferelas, Tanaris, or the volcanic area north of badlands, each having a unique story of its own.

For me, a quest system is a whole lot better than "whelp, that crab is level 63, we should be able to chain those!"
