You mean the same trailers with cutscenes that don't even show up in the actual game?

He's not wrong that all the expansions use very cliche or predictable plots (As well as the obligatory fanservice jailbait girl, except for Lion who looks like she's from the 80s), but half the enjoyment of FFXI's plots was always the progression through it anyway. Video games (and especially online ones, wtf) are rarely the place to look if you want innovative plots.
why would you want an innovative plot anyway? people like the familiar. if its something that's too innovative, it becomes too radical for their tastes and they dismiss it anyway. if you've seen any of the newer stories out there that are lauded, all they ever do is take an old concept and push it slightly in any particular direction
quite frankly, its never about the story - its about the storytelling.
but my point was really that theres no need to convince esby because he never intended to let himself be. to which i say, if you're not even going to be open minded, stop being a negative nancy around here. thats so 2007 BG.
I totally knew that we were in an alternate reality, and that my other self was super powered by Odin and has been fighting the Shadow Lord for 20 years, all by watching the WotG trailer.
Maybe we'll (finally) clash with something on the Big Bridge! The Rala Waterways are a gigantic expanse of interconnected underground straits spanning from east to west by means of the Big Bridge.
So NA/EU will only get PS2 digital download if they want a little more money?PlayStation 2 retail price of 3.980 yen (tax included)
I play on PS2/PC but $40~ ehhhhhh.
NA/EU get nothing for ps2 except an compatibility update.
PS2 digital download? How?
There's no PS2 version outside of JP.
Also, you can find prices here:

EU never got a PS2 version anyway.
People will just start jumping servers. Let's not give SE any ideas.
Also, I know they are not trying hard enough because the very first Trailer for FFXI was almost identical format as their last one.
It's been my long standing belief that this company doesn't care about really working with or for their customer base. As long as they meet the bare minimum of making you play another month, it works for them and it's enough.
This is a general comment not directed at any one person in particular. If you want to discuss how much you hate the trailer or why you think the expansion will suck based on published information and the trailer, that's fine. Check the general FFXI hatred at the door, though, as it's coming across as trolling and we don't need a "FFXI sucks" flame war shitting up a thread about trailer. kthx.
Man I remember seeing that original trailer. Lots of what the fuck development stuff in it. Weird armors, goobs eating mandies. That dragon in... some Zilart place with a lot of water.
And yeah the negativity is kind of shit. I've been on break from the game since end of Sept because there's not a damn thing to do for someone not in a LS whose friends have mostly all quit. The only three things that'll get me to resub are Adoulin, Bonanza, and new auto parts (whichever gets added to game first). I don't care how bad the video is, it's an expansion with honest to goddamn goodness new zones to explore. Exploring new places was the best part of this game. What kind of trollin' grinch are you that you hate storylines, exploration, AND new jobs to, at the very least, laugh and complain about?
I'm so hard for a new expansion. You don't even know, gurl.
That trailer makes me wish they'd do a show-and-tell someday on a lot of their prototype/alpha assets.
As for SoA, I wonder how much of stairs-town will be traversable now, since the tiny screencap from the site still makes it look kinda........polygonally basic in the distance as the leaked dat was, which still gives off the impression half of the zone will be locked off/for show.
The main town zone itself also looks somewhat simple, but it also looks to be a fairly large zone, vs. the towns we've had all these years which were broken up into 3-4 areas to deal with PS2 limitations.
Given how the town was described - a distinct "commoners" district to the west and the castle area to the east - mimics the layout of Whitegate, I'd bet that we only see the castle via cutscenes (like Imperial Whitegate). Do we have any zone names that would seem to be the castle, though?
The only zone names they've thrown out so far are the seven on the Adoulin website (Western Adoulin, Rala Waterways, Yahse Hunting Grounds, Ceizak Battlegrounds, Foret de Hennetiel, Sih Gates, Moh Gates). These all seem like pretty large areas based on that old dat mining that found them and the screenshots they now have published, but I'd have to think that there are still at least a couple more to be named. But yeah, it's possible that the castle is just a backdrop and only involved with cutscenes, etc.
Spira actually posted a list of zones he was able to find in the test server dats.
Spoiler warning I suppose, though really it's just spoiling a few names so it probably isn't a big deal. Between this and the official site, there's 12 zones so far.
I'm gonna be a bit disappointed if we can't actually climb the stairs though.
