Don't put on me on what Texas state law considers lawful/justified self-defense and how it magically applies in all other 49 states, only one of which I have voting power in.

And in relation to shooting yourself in the leg I remembered about a short blog about a guy that did just that. AAR, recovery, pictures, etc.

What on earth are you going on about? No where in the article does it state he was justified shooting his wife. Only during a break in, and she obviously wasn't a break in. Pretty sure the poster above was talking about the guy's mentality not the law.

I think the guy's mentality is a huge problem, shared all across the US. Just basing it on a few people I know, but they seem to be paranoid 24/7 that the boogeyman is out to get them. They buy into all the fear-mongering that happens in the news, and at the same time envision themselves using a gun to become a hero.

It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy. People want a reason to use their gun so they find any justification they can and they end up attracting trouble, ironically making themselves (and people around them) far less safe than if they didn't have a gun in the first place

Meanwhile, Fox news and the NRA are laughing all the way to the bank. That man that shot his wife happened in my home town, and he should have been charged with something. He basically Oscar Pastorious'd his wife.

Road Rage? Sounds like un-diagnosed psychological problem. Would be great if we could implement some kind of anger/emotion management program into public schools. Seems like some useful skills people would need throughout life, not just when they snap.

I'm trying really hard not to blame the gun for the death in this case, but even if the guy had a baseball bat and bashed the car's windows in with it, there would be a chance to drive off.
