Gunman no longer contained. Police cannot locate him, unknown if they have a hostage situation. Witness claims 20 shots fired over a few minutes. Police have a half mile radius lockdown.

It's important to wait until more details come out to draw any specific conclusions. On the other hand, it's no surprise that we have yet another gun incident involving a significant number of people (and in this case police officers being wounded).

As an aside, since we have some LEO people on the board, what is the general feeling of LEOs regarding gun regulations and gun control? Beyond any questions of whether or not a higher gun ownership rate / looser gun laws correlate with more frequent gun violence incidents, do things like open carry, etc., potentially complicate active shooter situations because you might have shooter who pose a larger threat to responding officers, bystanders who could be mistaken for a shooter, etc.? Or does it end up not making much of a difference in reality?

Religious belief that god is telling you to kill people, yeah. Simple solution is to get rid of religion and just believe in darwin.

I mean, no offense, but police aren't exactly CQB and tactical masterminds. Their job is most likely to contain the situation and try to resolve it without any hostages(?) or officers being killed.

There are plenty of ways to assault a building through force that can be employed successfully.

Contain, and negotiate if civilians are out.

Entry is usually a last resort, unless it's still a active shooting with multiple potential civilian victims (i.e active shooter at a school)

I get the ideas in a perfect world, but I mean if someone is shooting at you, generally I'd think Police would be likely to return fire if not for anything but cover for their wounded. Just seemed crazy to me that he hadn't been hit in one of the exchanges pretty much.
