This thread got dumb for the same reasons why every other conversation I have nowadays ends up being, and I live in the wannabe South. The truth is, most racists hide their bankrupt racist opinions until you talk it out of them. The white supremacists that shot up some protesters in Ferguson were troll-chans, not out there being proud bigots with sheets. They probably hopped in their pickup after jerking off to ebony porn.
The art of trolling is long dead anyways, no effort put into it, that's why I can't give fuckdue a pass just because he said the magic words.
Maybe it's cuz I grew up in NYC, but I don't even get why anyone is so proud over a bloc of states that betrayed the union and subsequently got their ass beat. It's like flaunting a broken jaw x-ray.
It wasn't really an ass beating to be fair
The Confederacy actually had fewer deaths than the Union army did, but the Union army was way larger. Disease killed way more than combat though, so the more people your army has the more will die that way.
wouldn't say leagues ahead in combat skills, the Rebs consistently got whipped out west even while winning most of the more famous eastern battles pre-Gettysburg. the Army of Northern Virginia boasted an uncommon amount of tactical brilliance in Jackson, Longstreet, Stuart, and Lee that enabled them to win several spectacular victories on the latter front, at least until Grant, Sheridan, and Sherman decided to destroy the South's logistical and economic arteries with earth salting while focusing on attrition warfare, knowing the South's slim population reserves and slimmer material reserves could never hold up under sustained pressure
it was a bit of a Hannibal/Rome situation, one side knew how to win a battle the other knew how to win a war
The only solution to these daily shooting sprees is more guns!
Sorry I couldn't resist.
In all seriousness though do you think these active shooters would have lasted so long if more people in the building were armed and trained to shoot? Or do you think it would just lead to more innocent bystanders being shot as people without any combat experience fail to hit their actual targets due to the stress of the situation?
I am not trying to troll this topic, I really want to hear if people think that your every day civilian open carrying is a deterrent or a detriment in this type of situation. Shooting at paper targets is very different than shooting at a person, and a person shooting back at that. Someone with no type of active combat experience is likely to either freeze up or not be very accurate returning fire. Do you think its enough to shoot back and not hit anything? Is that a deterrent in itself? Or is it just going to escalate the situation to even more violent levels. I think these people are just out to kill as many as possible so at this point I don't feel like there can be any further escalation.
More people carrying would always either help a lot or hurt a lot in this situation, but because of the nature of the tool in question I'd err on the side of caution and just allow less people to carry. This isn't the case of having too many chefs in the kitchen ruining dinner for the evening; too many people trying to help with their own firearms will either end the situation quickly, or cause innocent bystanders to be killed. Let's just go with the safe option in this case, eh?
From what I've heard/understood is that if you're firing at someone with armor that stops your bullets and you don't have armor that stops his bullets you're super fucked
@would people with guns in the building make it better
Maybe everyone should wear tactical gear?
Combat / encounter experience is a HUGE factor that is probably the biggest indicator of how to know someone is full of shit.
"If more people had guns they'd be able to stop it!" Is right up there with people thinking they can fight because they take karate or work out on a bag. Still get knocked the FUCK OUT by a single punch because real life is different from ideal scenarios.
Random people with certs from a gun range would not help, no. People would panic, hurt themselves, others, get themselves killed, etc.
Jmc already said it but tunnel vision is a real thing. You need to be trained / conditioned out of it. Going back to fighting, if you've ever been in actual fight think back to your very first one - where shit just escalated and you were in the thick of it. Bet it was over before you had any fucking clue what was going on. Tunnel vision.
Replaces fists with guns and instead of getting knocked on your ass you'd be dead. Or have killed someone else. Low chance of it being the right person.
