100% they are, but even the most casual casual has to admit they'd shoot if it was a bear dragging a kid.

If you think of monkeys as strong, angry retards, you're closer to the truth than is comfortable. Would you trust a violent retard with 300lbs of muscle to hold your kid? No? How about after you piss him off by shooting him with a tranq?

Tranquilizers are only successful when they're unexpected. If you agitate an animal and then try to put it under, it takes a heck of a lot more drugs to go down (and if you try to rush it then it will probably die of OD when it finally does go down).

    Tragic, regrettable situation, etc.

They made absolutely the right call and if I was in their shoes I'd have taken the first clear shot. The suburban casuals making noise apparently have difficulty comprehending the behavior of animals less docile than deer. Gorillas have a lot of muscle and no social contract with humanity. They might as well be bears.
A big part of the suburban casuals problem is that the news doesn't show the gorilla hydroplaning this kid like a ragdoll across the water multiple times, they only show the gorilla being gentle in between the terrifying jetskiing.

    Again, how timely

Friend traveling to Colombia for a week:
    >> "YAY MONKEYS I LOVE MONKEYS"

"Be careful. All monkeys are angry dicks and they are 100% not cool.

    >> "Monkeys are awesome why are you always so negative yadda yadda blah blah"

"Just saying, monkeys are dicks and they are not your friends. Do not do this thing."

    A week passes.

    >> "I fucking hate monkeys."
One had like scratched the fuck out of her neck and smashed some expensive thing she was carrying pretty much because it fucking could.

Aks isn't wrong here, and it's one of the few times I agree with her. People care far, far too much about animals, meanwhile human beings are starving or dying of exposure in the streets, or being summarily executed by police for "appearing threatening." The reactions are insanely disproportionate, and you're being ignorant for ignoring that the biggest reason why stuff *becomes* viral and/or widespread is that people care about certain stuff more than others. There absolutely is meaning in how much senseless outrage there is over certain things that are far less frequent, and far less horrible than stuff we're doing to our own species.

Sounds like every interaction with monkeys ever. It was probably yelling like a banshee the whole time, too.

Yeah. I mean, he's not attacking the kid, but he sure as fuck is endangering it repeatedly via incredible strength

    and they're in a moat

and the kid has a concussion

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Very sad sucky situation all around. I do think the decision was the right one. I also can't really blame the mother, either. The hate given to her is atrocious. Like she's the first mother to lose eyes on her kid.

I also hate how people use this as a defense to get rid of zoos. This is a very very very rare incident. A sad one, but still very rare. I am not a fan of saying, "It must be perfect, or can't exist at all." Many animals wouldn't exist today if it weren't for zoos.

Well, more like 7 concrete species are thought to have been saved by captive breeding programs.

I also agree it's not the mom's fault. Kids gonna kid. The zoo really just needed a human-proof barrier. When I see "4 year old in gorilla exhibit," I'm wondering which idiot parent lifted their kid over the fence and accidentally dropped it this time. I'm not expecting that the pre-K kid managed to bypass the barriers keeping him out of the exhibit. Zoo barriers should be as good at keeping humans out as keeping animals in, for the safety of both.

Kids gonna kids =/= kid ends up in an Gorilla enclosure. I doubt the kid managed it in an instant. Any responsible parents should have enough of an eye on their kid to make sure they don't manage to bypass whatever security measures were in place to keep people out.

Bushes and a wire that the kid had to duck under before he took a jump into the moat. The way it's described it sounds like any kid with a good pair of legs could probably make it as long as they had a running start.

Using a primate as an analogy for black oppression may, perhaps, not be the most well thought out idea.

Sure can't wait to point out where this gorilla was sold to us by other gorillas, hauled overseas packed like sardines, and bred to perform manual labor over the course of centuries.

And what about the Northern European albino gorillas that were shipped in after their native homeland's great Banana Famine and were put into captivity? That sure got swept under the leaves.

And what about the Million Monkey March? Just some bambooroots movement?

Holy shit that video is fucking scary! Most definitely the only course of action at that point was to kill it. A man falling into a pit with a gorilla is scary enough, a four year old would've inevitably been torn apart limb by limb. These peta douchebags wouldn't have questioned the decision either had it been their child.

After watching the full video. Shooting the gorilla was the correct decision. I'm still unsure if the planets are to blame? Witnesses say the kid really did disappear in a split second. How he managed to get into t cage is what confuses me.

Father wasn't nearby either. A lot of people defending the mother or straight on hate.

I agree. Who knows if Jupiter really couldn't saved the kid or if Venus was just looking for attention.

    I personally blamed Pluto's indecisiveness.
