I'm not saying you have to trick shot off the rock and just wing him pretty good, but there were probably other ways to resolve the situation. Feels kind of like a "when all you have is a gun, every conflict is with a target" take on the hammer saying. There has to be some way to resolve a man vs. man with rock conflict other than putting a few bullets in the guy with the rock. (He lived and is charged with assault, by the way.)

That cop shot at him 9 times and he still lived? I don't know whether he should be shamed for incompetence or praised for his restraint in targeting vital areas.

Yes, but I don't go through simulators saying "when I lacerate a femoral artery in my video game I clamp it twice for good measure".

It's a fucking simulation. You use your head in real time, because unpredictable things happen.

Like death by inanimate rock. Holy fuck I'd be so scared.

Also, I could probably suture a wound perfectly in that DS doctor game. Guess that makes me a master fucking surgeon irl.

While your odds are low, so long as any major organs and arteries are missed, you can survive multiple gunshot wounds. As is, you are trained to shoot center mass. Depending on the size of the person, you can probably miss some major ones.

Short version, some cities refuse to use them due to the fact they can still kill you if you have any sort of health issues or high on drugs. I believe every cop should have access to one once trained and certified of it's use, but yeah, especially out here you have all those anti violence code pink bullshit people who think offering a mentally unstable and violent person a bouquet of flowers is enough to subdue them.

Who gives a shit if tazers are lethal to a very small number of individuals/people high on certain drugs? The alternative is either expecting police to go Roadhouse on bitches, or raining lead on them. These means are less lethal, not non-lethal; the police moved on from non-lethal after he came at them with a rock. Only difference is they had no means of using other less lethal weapons, because budgets. =/

Who says that this cop didn't have a taser? Is there a news source somewhere claiming he didn't or are people just assuming he didn't because he went for his gun? The Dallas Police Department has had tasers since 2004.
