I heard 8 people taken to the hospital already
I heard 8 people taken to the hospital already
So who's ready to end 2016 with another gun debate with the newly President Elect Trump?
@OnlyatOHIOSTATE
9 injured, 1 in critical condition. Students remain in lock down. 1 suspect reportedly shot dead. 1 suspect being sought after by police.
They just didn't see the gun free zone signs.
I don't know how true it is, since it was on 4chan, but:
Spoiler: show
Could be getting Sam Hyde'd or something, but news is reporting the dead guy is a suspect and they just took 2 more into custody, which mostly matches the pic.
edit:
NBC reporter tweets are saying may be a machete/car attack.
I haven't heard of a confirmed report of anyone with a gun yet, just someone mowing down a bunch of people with a car. Maybe OU just activates "Active-Shooter-Protocol" anytime something crazy happens just to be safe, and the news sorts it out later after the fear hype dies down?
Local news was saying a student was hearing shots, so I doubt it was just a car. Heck, wouldn't be surprised if the driver tried to take down the gunman if they weren't involved.
More in poor taste, any guesses the shooter(s) were Michigan fans?
Another view of that car in the previous pic I posted, starting to think the story might've been true.
Spoiler: show
Here's the reddit story:
A witness reports that attackers pulled a fire alarm so that the building would be evacuated. As students exited outside, a vehicle drove into the crowd, wounding multiple people. Two assailants then exited the vehicle to attack on foot- one carrying a gun and one carrying a knife.
10 injured.
9 transported in stable condition, 1 person critical, and 1 person treated on scene.
I know it's 10 too many, but seems like the shooter was dealt with quickly.
*edit*
Some outlets reporting this wasn't a shooting. Suspect drove his car into a group of people, then got out and stabbed a few more before being shot and killed by PD
Either way, that's some damn amazing response time from the PD.
Welp, it didn't take long for gun freaks on Facebook to call for car and knife control
Personally I'm in favor of universal gun registration.
It would go a long way toward stopping straw purchases if you
a) Had to register a gun in your own name before you could buy it
b) Had to transfer that registration to a new owner before handing it off to someone else
c) Retained a degree of culpability for crimes committed using guns registered in your name
d) Had a record of the times you reported guns stolen that would send up flags to the ATF.
I don't know that we'll ever put an end to mass shootings, but there are fixes to existing gun laws that would go a long way towards halting the every day violence.
Although a better way to do that is to address systemic issues of wealth and education inequality. Wyoming has essentially 10 guns for every person and practically no gun laws, and if you take away deaths via suicide they have one of the lowest rates of gun deaths in the country. Also Wyoming has an exceptional rate of high school education and extremely low poverty. Contrast Louisiana, with similar lack of laws but the highest rate of violence, with among the lowest education rates and highest poverty.
But yeah, if you were going to just try and make a difference purely from a legal standpoint; registration.
Alternately you could try to give every state gun laws as strict as Hawaii's and enforce them uniformly across the country.
Well seeing as how the shooters were a somali immigrant and a boy named Ali Mohammed why not just have a somali/muslim registry. Seems like there a lot less somali's and muslims in the country than gun owners and thus easier to track. Especially considering the prospect of homemade firearms.
6:05 in video owner of car is named.

The suspect's name was not released, but law enforcement officials told NBC News he was an 18-year-old Ohio State student, a Somali refugee who was a legal permanent resident of the United States.
Can't wait to hear how he got that gun.
