I can see that viewpoint. I can also see it as "Borglor prepares by bringing extra mags (or has scary hi-caps), homeowner is on the defensive and is not expected to have mag pouches in his bathrobe".

But I still don't see how magazine restrictions, assault rifle restrictions, and gun-free zones would help me, a lawful citizen, against someone that wants to jack my shit. If I know all they want is my TV then they can fucking have it, but since I'm not psychic I must assume they mean bodily harm against me or my family.

Well, if those restrictions make gun ownership so onerous that you just say "fuck it" and sell your gun, it helps you because it'll make you bail from a home intruder situation instead of stay and fight, the latter of which puts you in significantly more harm.

I'd imagine most people invading a home are going to the fuck out of there after even one bullet is fired, so I'm greatly confused by the apparently vast need for some sort of super magazine. If arguments are going to be based off vastly remote what-if scenarios I don't particularly think this is going anywhere.

The problem is that there are millions of people with millions of ridiculous situations they've made up in their minds from all the movies they've ever seen and all the stupidass ideas they've ever heard spewing their mindvomit on the subject... and in the end, they're winning, by a long, long ways.

Hell I had someone present me one of the most epic gun control arguments I've ever heard the other day in person. He said that the 2nd amendment doesn't say anything about hunting or sport, only about self defense, so if anything hunting rifles and shit should be banned and assault rifles protected.

Living in Kansas you learn to hold back the laughter and just move on when really good/cool people say unfuckingbelievably retarded shit. One of the most conservative people I've ever met is married to an extremely liberal woman that chooses to work for the city's low-income psychological services organization.

Better to have it and not need it than to have it and not need it. I think in the end a lot of the preparation scenario nuts feed off that reality because of the world we live in. Like you said, a lot of media and movie magic put ideas in to peoples brains that they need something for "x-scenario" without thinking about the costs or the ramifications of their actions.

The flip side to that would be a lot of the stuff we utilize today wouldn't have been developed unless a need was created for that particular item. Cell phones went from mobile telephones to mobile computers seemingly instantly because a need for the product developed. The need might not be "necessity" or "paramount to human survival", but damn if it doesn't make life easier.

I blame my time in the military and police for my paranoia. People who take it to a different extreme (say exclaiming they're going to murder people if they take their guns) because they stockpiled for the zombie apocalypse deserve to get their shit taken. Zombies are not real. A capital offense force large enough to take over the United States is not real. Yes, prepare yourself for home invasion; that shit is real. But don't go too far overboard and equate one less bullet to one less dead human because you know, killing people sucks. But then again, you break in to someone's house, you should read the disclaimer that the person's house you're breaking in to means you could get shot.
