Edit, ok the sword/katana was part of his costume this halloween. I just don't understand why the news reporters are suddenly classifying it as a "ninja sword".

NJ mall on lockdown after shots fired

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — Hundreds of law enforcement officers converged on a mall in northern New Jersey Monday night after witnesses said multiple shots were fired there.

NorthJersey.com reported that witnesses said a man dressed in black and wearing a black helmet fired up to five shots at Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus shortly after 9 p.m. as the mall was about to close.

Det. Rachel Morgan of the Paramus Police Department would not comment on whether shots had been fired inside the mall. She said several hundred officers were at the scene.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Not fair the guy went in to a store armed and potentially could have killed the owner.

Not fair they then threatened a private citizen who was armed against stuff like this and fought back instead of being victimized.

No right to lose his life? Shouldn't have brought a gun. Shouldn't have tried to rob the place. The police would have probably did the same thing then they would have been put out there for it. Double edged sword.

I'm sure the guys who did it were nice fellows who just happened to have a crazy idea to make some quick cash and it was all an accident. Sorry, not a nice thing to do when you arm yourself and rob a store. If that's not some thug-life stuff then I dunno what is.

The 2nd page in that link makes it seem like the dude who killed two people was playing cop, even though he isn't one. Who the fuck tries to stop a robbery in progress when they aren't a police officer and have no backup? If you're in the middle of it and pull out your gun to defend yourself, fine, but thrusting yourself into the middle of it is fucking stupid vigilantism.

Did you miss the part in the article where the robbers threatened him and he decided to unleash some sweet lead justice on the stupid fucks? If I was armed and I was threatened by someone who just did an armed robbery i'd be pulling a trigger as well. And any sympathy I had for the "victims" families went out the window. Hope they never see a dollar and if they sue lose and lose everything else they have.

I dunno. I'm glad I'm not the police, because as long as that guy's actions didn't harm any innocent people, I wouldn't be throwing the book at him. Its unrelated to the case where the cousin of a kidnapped woman found the guy and shot him dead (and was not charged, especially seeing as she was in the process of being stabbed by the kidnapper when he found them), but stopping bad guys is priority number 2 for me, behind keeping people safe. If civilian safety was assured in this aforementioned robbery case, then these two robbers can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

I'm biased, though, which is why I'm glad I'm not in the a position to actually control or enforce these laws.

Did you miss the part of the article (specifically the 2nd page, which I called out explicitly) where it indicates that the robbers were stopped by the guy while trying to flee. He wasn't even involved in the robbery. He inserted himself into it. He's a vigilante. He figured he has a gun, and he could play lawman, and capped two people without hesitation when they didn't comply with his demands. Robbers are scum, but vigilantes that kill people are equally scummy. Possibly more so.
