Worst FF Main Character ever

Seifer's so cool, shame he didn't have much in his arsenal for that fight so all he does is attack multiple times occasionally and cast Firaga. His second encounter at least gave him a limit break. His stance is so boss.

And yeh I agree that moment was quite random/defining/easter eggish. I remember a few us who played and talk about it regularly in class say Seifer is boss for taking ODIN now OMGGG~

I feel like zidane had a lot more personality than Cloud or Squall. Yes, they fleshed out and all that crap but Zidane was so much more relaxed and go with the flow about everything. I remember getting to one of the last dungeons and Zidane figures out he's just a clone thing or he was created by Garland and he's just NOT himself. All depressed and in disbelief about his existence. It was a pretty emotional scene for me.

I agree Zidane was fine. In FF9 I enjoyed the banter he and Steiner had. I also enjoyed the multiple-story-view (where if you land in town you can push a button to view what the other characters were up to). But perhaps due to the lack of awesome moments, and as I said (Excluding the monkey fact) he didn't seem to have much to remember him by (Cloud has BUSTA SWORD, Squall had a GOONBLADE and Tidus had his blitzball stuff).

Kinda out of reasons now. Also I guess at the beginning of Disk 4, the power of friendships snaps him out of it was a little weak.

The story in XII wasn't even written for Vaan, he was added at the last moment when higher ups wanted a younger person for the players to "relate to", as ridiculous as that sounds. The main character in XII was supposed to be Basch, however, the management decided they didn't want an older character as "lead".

Face of the game IS the main character. Who is the face of every offline main series FF? The main character. It's who SE chose to be the one. He is in Dissidia, he is in the official art. It doesn't matter what they had planned and whatnot. The fact that the story doesn't revolve around him and could be told without him doesn't disqualify him from being the main character. That IS what makes him a bad main character.

I know it's complicated for people to understand, so maybe it is easier for Vaan to be the main character (even though he isn't).

Hated tidus with a passion, holy shit. Vaan might of been useless to the story but Tidus made me wish I could digitize myself in Spira so I could just cast w.meteo and wipe out the entire world because of one little shit stain.

Also while we're on the subject of story, how main characters related to other characters, why the fuck wasn't this explained in FFXIII

You say he's Ashe's "anchor," but he doesn't keep her grounded at all. It's inner turmoil. She doesn't need Vaan and Penelo around to remind her of her people. She's fully aware of her predicament and is weighing the pros and cons throughout the game.

The only scenes that actually involve Vaan outside of the introduction at all are based on him being a loudmouth moron. Jumping on Basch's cage to yell at him when they're trying to sneak around Nalbina Dungeon... or how about being a stubborn little brat about finding the Deifacted Nethicite in the Rabanastre treasure room and running off with it. What does he contribute after his final fuck-up of pulling said Nethicite out right in front of Judge Ghis?

Every scene Vaan has a role in is just a simple mechanism, based entirely on his stupidity, to move the player into a new area. He does nothing to the dynamic of the party once it's full. Him and Penelo are dead weight in the story. It could be easily rewritten to not have him in it (or Penelo) and it would play out no differently.

He's just a young, unassuming, nimble Alladin-style young male PoV character for the player to assume the role of instead of just watching scenes and not feeling in control one particular body. He's just a starting point from which you meet the real characters.

If it makes you feel any better, you could just as easily write Fran out of the story.
