I'll catch flak for this but I honestly thought FFXIII had some of the most realistic and relate-able characters in the whole series. I don't get the hate for it at all besides the tunnel simulator for 85% of the game.Originally Posted by Silenka

I voted Lightning because I felt her character was so bland it make it seem like a color by numbers sort of deal with her personality. Plus, playing XIII was just like watching a movie. I never felt like I was playing a game, but rather just letting the game play for me.
So Lightning is "bland" but Firion and Bartz are not?
Actually, how come the older main characters are getting so few votes compared to the new ones?
Cuz most people don't share that they either never played them or played them when they were growing up and let nostalgia do the rest. Cecil was a boss though but I've only really touched 4 and 6. 6 for me felt like too much was going on at once but I was probably too young to understand the full scope of the game so I never really mention anything about it.
I didn't like Tidus, guy annoyed the hell out of me.
I never played 2 that far so I have no idea about that game.
For FF4, I thought Cecil was a great lead. I can't really think of anything that takes points away from him.
FF5 had like 0 character development. Can't remember a whole lot but Bartz was just a lone wolf that left his town when his dad died or something...? I played that one for the awesome job system though.
FF6 for me was a mixture of FF5 and FF4 as far as character development goes. Terra starts out strong but takes a backseat after the world ends and then there's pretty much nothing. If I'm wrong correct me though. It's been a while since I've played 6.
I think it's hard to look at the snes generation games now because with the newer ones, we have a lot more complicated characters with a lot more injected personality.
btw, my favorite ff is a tie between 9 and 5. Dat job system in 5 is just so fun. Guh.
I'm not big in to the FF games and only played 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, and a small amount of 13-2, 10-2, and 7. Obviously that isn't much experience but I did enjoy lightning as a main character, Tidus was ok but kind of annoying at times, sadly I just couldn't connect to Vaan or get in to 12 at all which ruined him as a main character for me. I picked up the remake of 3 for the DS and really like the whole no main character story they have going there.
Snes gen ff benefit from not having complicated character growth or stories. Shit was simpler back then, and nostalgia takes care of the rest.
If ff6 was released today with 3d graphics it'd be generic jrpg with better a then usual ost. If it was released today with same graphics, it'd be generic jrpg that isn't worth 60 bucks cause they're too lazy to make a game with current gen graphics.
I really enjoyed Cecil and Kain in 4, more Kain than Cecil though. Probably just because I was excited about Dragoon. lol
All this character analysis makes me want to replay the old stuff as a refresher to everything that's happened. I have a pretty good grasp of their overall stories, but not the intricacies to really dissect them.
Terra does seem to take a back seat during the World of Ruin, but doing her side quest does reveal more character development, almost the conclusion of it actually (it being built up from the entire World of Balance segment obviously).
If that was responding to me I have zero nostalgia towards FF3 as it's my first time playing it and I'm playing the updated version for DS. It has some serious problems but I did quite enjoy the story as it is, even though it's simple. Then again I didn't pay 60 bucks for it either and probably wouldn't because I only buy maybe one game for that much a year if that.
For me it has to be Squall, he has no redeeming features and if that game had been voice acted I would have committed suicide. Best character is Zidane imo :D
I liked all the characters except Hope, because he was a whiny bitch who reminded me of Shinn from Seed Destiny. Lightning was very realistic and awesome and I wouldn't change anything about her. "Fuck the military, fuck the nation, fuck you, I'm going to help my sister." The main thing that I hated was the battle system. I liked part of it.. but I absolutely detested certain parts. Like there being aoe attacks, and being unable to realistically control your position.
Yeah battle system seems like it was made for action only and then they listened to some asshat fan that suggested they mix it with a turn-based system.
Reading through that one link posted, and gotta say, it just makes me like Squall more:
Rinoa: I missed ya.
Squall: ..Why?
