Why is there no "Everyone post VI" choice?
Edit: Actually, I'll go with Tidus for the same repeated reasons as everyone else
Firion (Final Fantasy II)
Cecil (Final Fantasy IV)
Bartz (Final Fantasy V)
Terra (Final Fantasy VI)
Cloud (Final Fantasy VII)
Squall (Final Fantasy VIII)
Zidane (Final Fantasy IX)
Tidus (Final Fantasy X)
Vaan (Final Fantasy XII)
Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)

Can I be the token Square whore and say I liked them all?
A lot of them are looking through nostalgia goggles. A good portion of those games were shit compared to FF7 and above. I voted for Terra, bitch was bland.
Don't take the shit opinions of Elcura and his kind so hard, Squall was a good character.I don't get the hate for Squall, his character had the most development in an ff for the longest. The game itself was quite fun too, up there as one of my fav in the series.
draylo said something is good, it has no more credibility. sorry squall
my post was bad before you approved it
As much as agreeing with Draylo pains me, the numbers speak for themselves. Squall in 4th place and Cloud has almost caught up to him.
I'm not denying that nostalgia playing a role in my defense of Squall though.
Gunblades. I don't care how awesome you think you are, when you are 10 and you see a gunblade, that is the coolest fucking possible thing that could ever exist in the universe EVER. The dude that wields one must be a badass.
I didn't even vote for Squall. The only good thing about him is that he looks cool and fights like a badass. He has a shit personality, story and game, but everything looked cool at least.
Tidus was a pussy and looked like a goddamn asshole who was dressed by his blind, retarded grandmother. That's why I voted for him.
As crazy as it is, I loved VIIIs story. It had some major plot holes but so does every FF game. Also love the game itself once you get past grinding out drawing the magic, but again, no different than grinding out levels in other games.
Woah what's with the sudden influx of Lightning votes?
I guess it's because of popularity backlash, kinda like FFVII has its fair share of haters?
She's like GLaDOS, Kefka, Commander Shepard or Solid Snake, it's hard to believe someone genuinelly dislikes her.
Honestly think Lightning just doesn't get fleshed out like most of the other main chars. I don't think she's a bad character just not one that compels you to care about her.
I was actually talking about this with a friend the other night. I actually liked Lightning, I just hated almost every other XIII character. The only thing that always bothered me about her story though was how she was supposed to be some badass soldier, yet she works for some backwoods self defense militia. She couldn't have possibly seen that much action, so in my head I just view her as the equivalent of that one mall cop that just takes their job way too seriously. I couldn't finish XIII though, so whether you find out something else about her past explains this is beyond me.
It doesn't really make a huge amount of sense that she's a great soldier given her position really, no. What bugs me more about lightning's progression through XIII and XIII-2 (and soon XIII-3) is how it completely contradicts itself, as I'm sure others have probably mentioned.
Herp kill the gods, derp protect the god describes her motives pretty well.
That said, she's still not as bad as Vaan in terms of actually being a main character so w/e.
Glad to see Zidane is rightfully recognised as the best main character since VI, I'm behind him being the best of all of 'em but it's probably my nostalgia for XI making me think that.
Voted Lightning.
I didn't hate XIII. It wasn't nearly my favorite in the series, but I did enjoy playing it. Idk what it is about Lightning though, but I honestly don't care about her at all. Every other main character in the series left me wanting to know everything about their stories (1 and 3 excluded obviously). Even Vaan had me interested enough that I wanted to learn more about his connection with the rest of his world. Lightning just left me with a big feeling of meh.
Maybe all the hate for Lightning was because she was designed on the ground up to be a female Cloud? lol
I'm unable to get too attached/hate for the characters pre-VII because of how the media interpreted. If there was some sort of FFXIII (heck, even FFX/X2/12) style remake of the older games, I might feel more. But as it stands, based on the limited media representation of them, I'm less caring about them.
I'm aware some older characters got imported and "upgraded" to Dissidia but ... I've not played either game, so I dunno how they're represented there. Perhaps playing it might skew my mind somewhat (i.e. Terra for me would always be that FF6 sprite and portrait, and some text, contrast to Cloud who's got an updated FMV CGI video made about him). This is just personal style/preference though. Likewise, I didn't really start liking some of the Harry potter characters until I've seen the films (the books were read first).
Did Zidane have any character development at all? I honestly can't remember the story from my playthrough of ff9 that well.
He's all cheerful until he learns what he is, then he is mopey, then he is cheerful again.
Like I said in my previous post Lightning really doesn't have much of a personality. She is a generic cardboard cutout of "badass" female. She also really doesn't have very much impact on the story of XIII either as pretty much every other character has a reason to be involved in the plot without her. Playing through XIII everything seems like it would play out mostly the same without her involvement at all. Which is something that made laugh considering the beginning of XIII-2's story where no one can remember her being involved at all.
Fuck all the FF13 haters, who cares about Lightning when you have Vanille?
