Tis exactly why the rest of us in New England refers to MA drivers as Massholes.

For the OP, see if you can get a policy that offers paybacks for safe driving, and factor that into the annual cost of your insurance when shopping. For instance, I pay $155/month ($1860/year) for full coverage through Sentry Insurance, and have a plan with them that pays me back ½ of my previous fifth year's premium each year that I don't file a claim. Having zero accidents on my record, this means that I get a check back for ~$900 each year.

Slight highjack here, but I got a question. I decided to get some quotes as I keep hearing horror stories from progressive. I just recently moved, got my vehicle registration updated and that's all fine. My concern is it seems the previous tenant(s) of my new apartment never updated their information. When I enter in my address, I got 4 vehicles showing up, 3 of which do not belong to me. I have two concerns, 1. Can this be potentially affecting my rate even though obviously they are not in my name, and 2. it seems like you can use this to get name and vehicle information which could potentially lead to identity theft. Is there a way I can even get them removed as being garaged at my residence? I've already had one wakeup call from a deputy due to a car showing my address in the registration being involved in an "incident" in oakland and I really don't like 3 am wake up calls.

It shouldn't affect your rate, since you only choose what vehicles you want to be insured.

As for the other records, it can take DMVs a long time to update their records, which is where insurance carriers are getting their info. If it's been a few months and those vehicles are still showing up, I'd pay a visit to the DMV to get that shit sorted out.

It will be about 3 months come the end of january. So I may have to make a visit if it's still showing up at the end of the month then.

I actually switched from GEICO to Progressive a few years ago for doing the same thing to me, jacking my rate up about $300 / 6mo. for no reason. Didn't even bother asking about it, I just looked for a better deal and switched. It's only a matter a time until Progressive does the same, I'm sure, but that's the name of the game.

Just grabbed this from the USAA site

    Becoming a Member

USAA membership is a privilege earned by those in uniform — and it's a privilege that can be handed down to their children. Membership is open to:

    • Active, retired and honorably separated officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. military.
    • Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
    • Adult children of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property insurance policy.1
    • Widows, widowers and former spouses of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property insurance policy.

You're only eligible for a certain amount of time once you're independent from your parent. Also, your dad would have to be a current member for you to be eligible for membership, if you were in the grace period.
