BG Gridiron Playoff Challenge

I nearly forgot about this, less than 48 hours or so until the first game, so get your entries in quickly.

To enter, you'll need to register on ESPN.com, but you can disable spam e-mails if you're worried about it. All of them do have a grand prize of some sort if you finish first amongst all the thousands upon thousands of entries in the game, so you might want to use real contact information just in case.

The game is pretty basic -- you set a starting lineup each week for the playoffs, based on a salary cap. Then it's a Fantasy scoring system based on the players you pick. I have no control over the scoring system, so it is what it is.

You can change your lineup after the wild card and divisional rounds, so don't pick any players with a bye this week, and don't be afraid to pick players you think are going to lose this week, as you can change them the next.

Please note: if you don't use your name, please note that it's not my job to track through 50 pages of a thread to figure out who won the thing. I'll look at your entry's name, maybe the last page or two of the thread to figure out who was bragging about winning, but if I get your name wrong on the list below, PM me and I'll fix it.

There will only be one winner because There Can Be Only One, and in the event of a tie, I will use ESPN's tiebreakers for the grand prize to establish a group winner.

Prizes? We don't need no steenken prizes! Although each game has a grand prize for all entries on ESPN.com, none of these games have a BG specific prize other then e-peen, bragging rights, and your name on the esteemed list of self-important jackasses below (I can say that because I'm on the list more than anyone else). If you do win, however, I'll totally buy you a beer at the next Oregon State home football game you come to. If you're old enough. If not, I'll buy two beers and drink both yours and mine.

Speaking from experience, there are a lot more sign-ups from a new thread than people who have grown tired of the old thread.

The salary caps are very low this year, I got exactly who I wanted with $1 to spare. I don't like that, I'm guessing teams will be very, very similar.

There is no advantage to using players on bye the first week.

yeah but it still helps to pick winning players now since most of their values are going to rise. the cap is a bit too forgiving imo but there will still be a point at which you can't add someone like ARodg if you didn't have him from wildcard weekend because his value rose too much

It really doesn't go up that much, you end up just ditching your TE or whatever if you must.

The issue is they don't make the prices matter that much, they just lock your teams from championship week.

I don't think it should lock earlier than that as it effectively eliminates more people sooner, but the caps are definitely too lax as they are now

I'd like to see them remove the lock completely, and do it via prices.

Like, if you got Brady right now you'd be dumb, because he'll be the same next week. If they win, in championship week he might go up from like 6.8 to 7.1 or something, the values barely change.


Why not, say, make him $4 if you take him this week, $7 next week, and $10-12 in championship week? And if they remove the locks and they win there, make him $15 for the super bowl.

Then we could make plays like that, and then if say gronk is healthy and available for $15 for the super bowl and you didn't have him, you might be rewarded by being able to add him. Or, if you went with somebody playing this week for $6 and capped out your spending, you might end up with big gaps for the championship/super bowl.


I dunno, my big issue is just that none of the value stuff really matters much, and in the end the winners are decided almost entirely by who picks the winners in championship week.
