    upgrading my pc :)

hey, made a thread a while back about how something died in my pc.

ANYWAYS. i decided to upgrade for the most part:

    - currently using a hd5770 gpu and 4gb ram (the two things im not upgrading)
    looking at:
    - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819113285 CPU
    - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157280 MOBO
    - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139010 PSU

came out to $395 which isnt bad in my book. my question is, is there a component that i should get thats better bang for my buck?

also, one last question. is there any downfall to using windows xp other than it being 32bit and not getting more than 4gb of ram? because i will be putting XP back on my pc unless there would be limitations beyond my RAM.

The PSU seems a little overpowered. Once you have the other components together, run them through here: http://www.enermax.outervision.com/ and round up to the nearest 50W step, then you have a very good estimate for what wattage your PSU needs.
As much as i love AMD, what they've done with the bulldozer/piledriver architecture and their APU approach is just sad... Not to mention that the AM3+ socket it pretty much dead, there will be no more processors for it after Vishera.
Really hate to say it, but you're probably better off with an Ivy Bridge Core i5 processor. AMD processors are damn cheap, but the performance is horrible compared to only slightly more expensive Intel processors...

And about XP: Microsoft will completely drop it in 2014 and stop delivering security patches, so i HIGHLY have to recommend to not use it. Get 7 or 8 instead, the current upgrade offers can give you a pretty cheap Win8 prof license, and with that you're good for some more years. Not that i'm a big fan of 8, but XP is definitely out of business after its ~12 years of duty.

Forget all about amd cpus. Pretend they don't exist. They are absolute garbage.

Intel's 3570k is easily the best cpu within your budget range. It'll cost a bit more, but give you much, much better performance.

750w is way overkill. You're probably using like 300-350w total. A 500w psu should be plenty. Maybe go with 600w if you want to be super safe for a future upgrade. You definitely don't need more than that unless you're planning 2-3 gpus.

Everything is fine except the CPU, I agree with what hey said above. The PSU is definitely overpowered for what you are trying to do, it's a little more expensive but you'll get your worth out of it if you plan on upgrading in the future. When you plan on upgrading its good to not have to worry about having to buy another PSU. Also, Corsair Gold certified PSUs use less power thus cost less to run over time, thus saving you money.

As for Windows XP, ditch that idea and just buy/pirate Windows 7. You can just run Windows XP in a virtual environment if absolutely necessary, but, for you, it's time for an upgrade.

What MB did you go for? Don't see one recommended and the one you listed in OP won't work for it.

ASRock has this one (or this if you actually need micro ATX) for $10 more than the one you linked, but I have no experience with the brand.

That said intel boards are typically meh and that one you linked is kinda crap (EDIT:: Just noticed it's a H67 not P67, you definitely need a difference MB, can't even attempt to OC the CPU with that one). Personally I would get ASRock Z77 Extreme4 as a minimum, Gigabyte Z77 UD3H if you can, anything less has poor VRMs and poor layout. I think this Biostar TZ77XE3 is on sale atm, after MIR it's only $100 making it very good value, it's gotten good reviews that place it around the Extreme4 area.

I would get the Biostar I linked if possible, it's cheaper and a much better quality board. The Pro4 will work though it's $17 more (depending on shipping costs on td.com) for a worse MB
