I did pretty well starting with Leon my first time, united Spain and became Emperor in a few generations. France started giving my borders some funny looks though and haven't played in a while, I should try and make it to the endgame sometime.

I'm having serious problems with this game. It crashes if I look at it wrong, so I can't play long enough to get a good idea of how TO play.

Well I'm getting better little by little, but that doesn't really matter when I can't play for more than ~two hours at a time. Anyone have any suggestions? Sometimes it just stops working, sometimes it throws up a "this application asked to be terminated in an usual way" error message, but i can't see any common trigger.

No idea, might wanna wipe it and install fresh. I have never had any problems with the game.
